The Wraith super-hive attacks Earth in "Enemy At the Gate."
The final season of Stargate Atlantis has been honored with five Gemini Award nominations, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced this week. The Geminis honor English-language television produced in Canada.
Series co-creator Brad Wright picked up a nomination in the Best Writing In A Dramatic Series category, for the moving episode “The Shrine.”
Costume designer Valerie Halverson was nominated for her work in “The Queen,” and Todd Masters has been recognized once again for his outstanding make-up work — this time for the episode “Vegas” — along with his team, Leah Ehman, Holland Miller, Brad Proctor and Kyla Rose Tremblay.
Finally, Mark Savela (interview) and the visual effects team have been nominated twice in the Best Visual Effects category, for the episode “First Contact” and the series finale “Enemy At the Gate.” The “First Contact” team includes Savela, Jason Gross, Paul Hegg, Brandon Hines, Jamie Yukio Kawano, Alex McClymont, Krista McLean, James Rorick and Luke Vallee; the “Enemy At the Gate” team includes Savela, Brenda Campbell, Natalia Diaz, Carina Dielissen Hunt, Shannon Gurney, Paul Hegg, Vivian Jim, Chandra Juhasz, Kodie MacKenzie and Alex McClymont.
In Season Four Atlantis picked up one nomination, for Jewel Staite’s performance in “Missing.”
The 24th annual Gemini Awards gala will be held November 14 in Calgary, Alberta. Congratulations to the crew and cast!
And yet they still thought it was a good idea to axe the show… sigh.
Stargate Atlantis? What is that? Oh yeah that is the show that the producers axed to make room for their precious new baby SGU.
…. (at a loss for words).
Whats this? Atlantis got a ton of nominations? And yet it was still axed.
FAIL.
5 nominations… I don’t get it. Atlantis should’ve at least been given the chance to find closure. Us fans deserve it. A third series is cool news, but we series must end before starting another. All the more while the Atlantis movie seems to be on hold.
I agree with all the posts above.
Wake up sheep, award ceromonies are just ass-kissing contests for suits and corporations, just the opinions of a few people who think their opinions matter more than others and see fit to make pointless trophies to give away.
Okay people, now hush up and make sure you support the re-make of “V” when it hits abc. Teach Universal/NBC/SyFy a lesson that will hit them in the pocket book. Lord knows Warehouse13 is just Friday the 13th which was much more interesting in tracking down demonic items and returning them to the store. Eureka is for 6th graders, Caprica is an old idea and after seeing the movie I’m hoping it never gets made. Then we have Sanctuary which only shows how desperate we are for Sci-Fi programs that look like you made em on your computer. That leaves… Read more »
yes, I know it’s Dog, I mean Doll-House.
no offense to anyone canadian…but really, shouldn’t a stargate show win all the…english speaking canadian awards
Why does Sheppard never get a mention.
Since Joe Flannigan is not Canadian so he would not be eligible for this award – I’m pretty sure its for Canadians only.
and to nkilbourn – I am a Canadian and there are more Canadian produced TV shows than Stargate
In fact many Canadians probably do not get to see Stargate as it is mainly shown for the first time on a Movie Channel. The Science Fiction network here in Canada is called Space and with Atlantis they have just finished showing season 4.
That’s a shame that Joe Flannigan couldn’t get nominated for his work in “Vegas”. One of the best eps of SGA and *his* best ep.
More award nominations “AND STILL THE SHOW WAS AXED FOR THE RUBBISH THAT IS SGU” enough said!!!!!
“Since Joe Flannigan is not Canadian so he would not be eligible for this award – I’m pretty sure its for Canadians only.”
Actually he would be; if the show qualifies, then so do those who were in it/made it. Alec Baldwin has been nominated in the past, and this year Amanda Tapping (nominated for ‘Sanctuary’- woot!) is up against Natalie Dormer from ‘The Tudors.’
I’m super happy with the noms this year, but the one thing I’m not happy about is the lack of nomination for David Hewlett’s performance in “The Shrine”- silly Academy…
“no offense to anyone canadian…but really, shouldn’t a stargate show win all the…english speaking canadian awards”
I think that the fans and creators of ‘Flashpoint’, ‘The Border’, ‘The Tudors’ (CBC co-production), ‘Sanctuary’, ‘Durham County’, ‘The Line’ and ‘Being Erica’, along with those who worked on comedy series and TV-movies, might have a problem with that.
I did think I read somewhere that the Canadian awards or at least some of them were only for Canadian Actors or Actress, but cant remember where I saw that. Anyway still great new for SGA whatever, an yeah it would have great to see Joe up for Vegas IMO the best Atlantis ep next to Raising. Just very sad again that this show was axed for that filth they trying to pass off as Stargate.
Well done to Stargate Atlantis, your the best!
SGA, right thats what show?, oh yeah the one the PTB trying to forget existed an feed us all the BS about movies being made not made hehe, bet Brad “Wrong” would still be more than happy to pick an award though, u just gotta love hypocrisy.
Good on SGA an ALL the actors, shame on the PTB for axing the show!
“I did think I read somewhere that the Canadian awards or at least some of them were only for Canadian Actors or Actress, but cant remember where I saw that.”
You’re right; some awards, like the Leos (BC-specific), are pretty specific about that. However, the Genies (for films) and Geminis (for TV), not so much. There is a Canadian content requirement for the show itself, but the nominated individuals don’t have to be Canadian.
Joe Flanigan may not be eligible for an award but they could at least mention him in their synopsis. In fact I’m finding it difficult to recall any moments when the lead of the show got recognised for anything. The Shrine was one of the worst episodes of season five for me but I’m not surprised to see it nominated.
It’s nice to know that Atlantis is apprecited somewhere… I just wish TPTB had appreciated it whilst they were making it, and we were getting more seasons of it.
SGA is still winning awards and they go and axe this show???? They don’t know a good thing even if it bit their asses and screamed “how can you do this to me?”!
