For hundreds of Stargate fans in America’s Midwest, this weekend is one they’ve been waiting for.
From August 21 to 23, Creation Entertainment is bringing their official Stargate convention back to the Windy City! Since beginning the annual conventions in 2004 at Chicago’s Wyndham O’Hare, attendance turn-out has grown consistently larger and larger. As a reward, Creation is pulling out all the stops to bring some of the biggest stars in Stargate to the Chicago Creation stage.
Friday festivities kicked off with visits by actors Connor Trinneer (“Michael Kenmore”) and Gary Jones (“Sgt. Walter Harriman”). In addition this year, Creation’s traditional Friday Night Cabaret featured Gary Jones performing “Starhole SG-1.5“, a long-form improvisational comedy sketch based around Stargate. The performance, which also features genre actor Dean Haglund (“Langley” from X-Files, The Lone Gunmen), requires audience participation and some convention-goers got a chance to act on stage with the stars!
Saturday was designated as SG-1 day. After a long absence from Creation’s conventions, Amanda Tapping (“Samantha Carter”) took the stage in Chicago for the first time in several years. Also, convention regular Michael Shanks (“Daniel Jackson”) was on-hand, fresh from filming his scenes in a future episode of Stargate Universe.
Sunday will be even more jam-packed as Chicago welcomes the stars of Atlantis. Throughout the day, guests will see stage appearances by Paul McGillion (“Carson Beckett”), Joe Flanigan (“John Sheppard”) and Rachel Luttrell (“Teyla Emmagan”).
If you’re not at the convention this weekend, don’t worry! GateWorld is on hand to bring you any breaking news. In addition, we’ll keep you posted with con reports and photos after the event.
Keep your browser locked on GateWorld in the coming days! You can learn more about upcoming events — including Stargate‘s stop in Los Angeles, November 6 to 8 — at Creation’s official Web site.
now they just need to bring a convention to Atlanta…or somewhere near it so i can go
No offense but change the title, seems like your saying they’re “coming out”
I was at the convention on Saturday. Michael and Amanda were fantastic. This was my first convention. It was very well attended.
Can’t wait for your reports and the photos!
But hey, what happened to the forum???!!!
Yeah they need to have more cons on the East coast again.
Just got home from the Chicago. FANtastic!!! Michael, Amanda, Joe, Rachael, Paul, & Gary were all amazing. Take note Brad Wright…despite the “bad economy” the place was PACKED. There was nothing but LONG lines of fans spending $$$$$.
Great convention and all the guests were amazing. Huge turn out and support for SG1 and SGA and a VERY poor response to SGU. Michael Shanks asked us to watch it even if its just to say how much we hate it, lol. The franchise ends here for me. The convention was my farewell to SGA and a chance to thank the cast for the wonderful job they did.
There’s a great convention in Atlanta. Dragoncon. Check out the website at Dragoncon.org. (.com will also forward you there). This year we got Claudia Black, Ben Browder, Joe Flanigan, Jason Momoa, “the chevron guy” (I never can remember his name),Rachel Lutrell, and a boatload of others from Battlestar Galactica (Edward James Olmos!!), Buck Rogers, Star Wars, ect,,,. And yes, I do work there, but I was an attendee long before. Check out the website. The con is on Labor Day weekend.
My first thought was the same as a previous poster. I was afraid someone was actually “coming out”.
