Today GateWorld is celebrating 10 years on the Internet.
We launched our little Stargate fan site in 1999, just after “Jolinar’s Memories” made its Showtime premiere. What started as a little episode guide has expanded to include news, nearly 40,000 members worldwide in GateWorld Forum, 2,300 entries in the Stargate Omnipedia, more than a quarter of a million images in the Stargate Gallery, interviews with every producer and nearly every Stargate main cast member, a weekly podcast on the world of Stargate, and more. (Read about the site’s history here.)
This past year, the conclusion of Stargate Atlantis and the big premiere of Stargate Universe kept us plenty busy. The new series has rejuvenated our passion for this franchise that has given us so many years of entertainment.
Thanks go to you, our regular visitors who have made this site the most popular Stargate site on the Interwebs. And a special thanks go to everyone who contributes to keeping up the site: David our co-editor extraordinaire, Greg our server admin, Gilles our graphic designer, Chad our assistant editor, our entire team of incredible forum moderators, Callie our episode transcriber, Sharon our episode summaries author, our new Omnipedia editorial team, and everyone else who has written, designed, developed, and otherwise shared their own talents to help make GateWorld better.
We are excited to see what the future brings in our second decade! Stargate Universe is off to a great beginning, and we plan to cover the show inside and out for as long as it is on the air. We’re also excited to see MGM pony up and get those next SG-1 and Atlantis movies made.
In addition to weekly coverage of SGU‘s new episodes, we’ve just begun preliminary work on the next iteration of the site — GateWorld 3.0! — which we hope to roll out sometime next year. And there are always new ideas on the drawing board, and opportunities for talented fans to get involved.
Thanks for making GateWorld your site for Stargate!
