McKay is the obvious choice, as well as Carter, at least to visit the ship itself. To support or consult from Earth/Atlantis, almost anyone is game.

If they intend to use an Atlantis characters for any lengthy roles it will be interesting to see how they incorporate the character because the writing styles between those SGA and SGU in particular are almost complete polar opposite. SG1 towards the end definitely gravitated toward that atlantis style show but in earlier seasons of SG1 occasionally shot more towards that SGU drama style of writing. Which I think opened the door more for a SG1 characters to guest star rather than SGA characters.

I’d love to see some scenes between Dr.Rush and McKay or for them to get both Zelenka and McKay onboard Destiny for a consult. I love it when those two bicker and they make the most sense to me.

While I do like to see the SG1 and SGA cast members. I’d like it to be more than just a few second or one minute cameo. Can we have some plots where the guest stars actually are more involved with the plot? Poll?

Mckay, daniel, carter and o’neill are really the only ones that could realistically fit into the story. I am sure they could figure something out, like when they “midaway” unexpected to have tealc but it definately worked. Mckay would definitely be my top choice but seems like it would be difficult to add that character to the show. I agree the writing styles are just too different. Unless they somehow get Mckay on the show full time. that would great. Daniel seems liek the most logical if they were going to add someone from other series for an extended period of time. I always thought Daniel was an ideal character to bring to atlantis especially after now that the Ori are gone. I also thought daniel would be the best choice for someone to run the SGC. Who knows, anyone would work well

I’d like to see O’Neill, Carter, and Jackson again as well as maybe Dr Lee, Walter, McKay, Zelenka, Woolsey. As much as I like Teal’c and Ronan I don’t see how you could fit them in for a guest star role in this show. You know who we need to do a guest role…..Siler!!

The one that is no choice is O’neill, since they visit him here and there for reports and stuff.
Teal’c, Ronan, Cameron and Sheppard, don’t really belong there unless there is some kind of battle.
Carter and McKay, would be ok, i guess since they are smart people.
Daniel, would just have a geek moment and would be hilarious and funny to watch :P.
Beckett or Jennifer, would be nice too have on board since they are doctors.
But Vala, Landry, Woolsey or Teyla, i would avoid, since they really don’t have much to give to SGU.

Great news! From SG-1 I’d like to see the original team of Jack, Sam, Daniel, and Teal’c appear!

From Atlantis I’d like to see John, Ronon, and Woolsey. I don’t like the character but it makes sense for McKay to appear too.

I don’t want to see ANY SGA characters on SGU. I can’t believe that the ptb are now so desparate that they have to include SGA characters to boost SGU’s failing ratings. I thought SGU was the way forward for the franchise according to Joseph Mallozzi. Now they can’t even sustain their audience and stand on their own feet. Season 5 of SGA already did enough damage to the characters, I’m not interested in seeing SGU versions of them. I’m pretty sure it will be McKay, not because he’s the obvious choice but because he’s the ptb favourite. I wouldnt tune into SGU if the entire SGA cast appeared in it.

    June 29, 2010 at 6:28 pm |

Sheppard and McKay. Since tptb downplayed Sheppard’s ATA in the later seasons of SGA, it’s about time it surfaced again. The writers stated it was the greatest gene, “the likes they never seen before”, but chose to ignore it. Must have been too much of a challenge for them. And McKay, for all the obvious reasons. Plus Flanigan and Hewlett play well off of each other.

None SGA cast member in sgu.
It would seem TPTB are very desperate to call help to ones they fired 2 years ago and these same people criticized them so much comparing to sgu cast. They the best one cast with sgu ones but just after they called AT MS and RDA and now SGA ones.
    Sad and sadly LOL

Jack, Daniel, and Sam for SG1 and Mckay for SGA would be the obvious choices IMO. Jack because they report to him. Sam and McKay for their experience with Ancient technology. Daniel because of his knowledge of the Ancients themselves. Would be great if there was a problem on the Destiny and they bought in Sam, Daniel and McKay to fix it. Because lets face it with those three working together what couldn’t they figure out? :)
As much as I love the other SG1 and SGA characters I cannot think of a good reason to have them in the show.

I agree with angel and domdom. I’d just as soon they leave the SGA characters out of it. But of course if they come to some kind of agreement with either Hewlett or Flanigan, I’ll watch in support of the *actors*.

McKay and Carter should be in there to try help work out how to use the ship and possible take full control of it. Sheppard would be valuable for his Military ability, plus the fact on SGA he has the best ability to use Ancient technology, from what I recall better than General Jack O’Neill (RDA).
Daniel Jackson for his ability to understand Ancient language or it would seem any language.
Carter would be excellent as she is her technical knowledge is out of this world and would be good to have her and Mckay together of course she is hot. Teal’c would work well with the Lucian Alliance episodes.
But it needs to more than just a cameo for some of these characters
@Billz… I can’t put my finger on it but I believe you would like to see Christopher Judge again…

It’s unfortunate, but it does seem that casting SG1 and SGA characters into SGU is a way to bring backs who quit the series. However, as someone pointed out, only a few characters would logically need to on Destiny if that’s the case. Carter, or McKay, but after McKay went through that body swap with Cadman, I seriously doubt he’d EVER do it again. As much as I like Sheppard and Mitchell, there’s no need for fighter pilots, is there? And Teal’c… Ronon…. well, I doubt they’d do it and there’s no logical reason for them to be there. And yes, more than 1-2 minutes, or really, please don’t bother.

I am assuming that they are going down this route in an attempt to lure some of the SGA/SG1 fans back to the franchise.
The folks who are not watching due to dislike of the tone of the show or out of “loyalty” to the previous shows are probably not going to tune in long term just because one of their favorites makes a guest appearance. It didn’t work all that well with Daniel, Jack and Sam in terms of ratings.
I, for one, would tune in for the ONE episode if Sheppard showed up (in support of the actor)and would wait for the YouTube clips of any of the others. I’d love to see McKay or Zelenka take Rush down a peg or Sheppard beat the H E double hockeysticks out of Scott and Young!

Honestly though, McKay and Zelenka make the most sense to me in terms of plot. And TBTB have always found it easy to write for McKay, it’s their comfort level.
They would have to stretch to include the non-scientists. Sheppard’s gene would have no effect, I don’t think, in a swapped body, so that wouldn’t be a reason to bring him on board.
But his character has certainly been shown to be dark enough to “do what is necessary” and match the tone of SGU. If some sort of quantum mirror or whatever brought him there it could work.
I can also see Keller there in her role as a physician and Vala there to deal with the Lucian Alliance folks.
And then Todd could eat them all…

The only SGA character that would make sense would be McKay. And I shutter to think what they would do to him. I still cringe at The Pegasus Project and how he was the butt of the jokes. But I don’t like the tone of Universe and even if they have McKay on occasionally, I still won’t watch SGU.

    June 29, 2010 at 10:02 pm |

More thinking on this and how they could get Sheppard into an episode (can you tell he’s the one I’d want to see? )- he wouldn’t actually have to be on the Destiny, there could be some tech back on Earth that only a strong gene carrier could initiate, that was vital for the Destiny’s mission to complete. Or whatever that grand mission is, could involve gathering together those with the gene into one place for some joining or something – that way you’d get Shep, Beckett, Lorne, Jack.
    OK, reaching here…

Joe Flanigan said several times that he wouldn’t be doing any SGU stuff. If – and that’s a big if – he popped up in SGU, the part would have to be rocking awesome to lure him back. He really isn’t an actor who would grovel for roles, just the opposite. He calls ’em, as he sees ’em – that’s why he rubbed the execs so wrong.

I think that with SGA actors they mean someone like Amelia or Chuck or maybe, just maybe Zelenka or Woolsey (aiding Wray?), not the “Big Four” XP

While I would love Teal’c to be on the show, I really don’t see what role he could play, you don’t just put a character in, just to have them there. But who knows, maybe I’m just short sighted, maybe there is a place for him.

Definitely McKay, he is very proficient with ancient technology, I’m sure there are many situations where he could be of use.
I would have liked Beckett to have been the one to go to destiny for that operation.

Oh, and while bringing in these characters might be a way of bringing in lost(err… not the show, lost) fans, they would have done it anyway, it’s a way of paying homage to the older series. Atlantis brought in SG-1 characters, even though it was its own show. Only slightly different here.

Why not Aiden Fort? For he has been missing for so long and no one knows whether he is alive still or not. And if he is, he’s jumping from world to world. ( Maybe chased by the Wraith due to his Wraithenzymeaddiction?)

The STAR of SGA – Sheppard I’d also like to see someone like Corin Nemec back in the story also. I think he did a wonderful job when Shanks was gone. He really did fit in and if he were added instead of replacing Michael he would have lasted longer. Anyhow, Mr. Flannigan all the way.

O’neill, Carter, Daniel, Shepard, McKay, Zelenka, Mitchell. I would love to see all these people in the next season. Maybe Shepard and Mitchell help with the current Lucian alliance problem, then when that settles you bring McKay and zelenka on to help with the technical research and of course you bring Daniel on to help with the ancients stuff. But would also love to see alot more of Jack. This show could only benefit from more screentime for Jack.

    June 30, 2010 at 9:55 pm |

I vote to bring in Shepard for an episode to “stand-in” for young during some sort of investigation/hearing with the IOA. I think it would be interesting. Perhaps bring in both McKay and Shepard to stand in for Rush/Young, with an inquiry about the events in Justice. While they are there, have McCay set up something with an unintended consequence that Mathboy helps him solve. If you want to have something interesting you could have Shepard aged about 20 years after a “encounter” with Todd, which would explain his presence on Earth….

    June 30, 2010 at 10:01 pm |

Woolsey substituting for Wray would be interesting – especially when Wray looks into the mirror….don’t know how her significant other would react… I could see the IOA sending in “the master” to evaluate the reports Wray has been sending in on the Rush/Young relationship.

I’m an Atlantis only fan. I don’t like SG-1 and I’ve never watched any second of SGU.
After all the things TPTB have said about SGA (the show in general and its actors), I’ll never watch any show produced by them again.
I never liked how Atlantis was treated, not only because of the cancellation but in general. It seems to me that, after SGA’s first season, all the producers wanted to do is dump SG-1 characters on Atlantis for either guest roles or as regulars (poor SGU only fans, I know how you must be feeling now).
I’m loyal to Joe Flanigan, Jason Momoa, David Hewlett and Rachel Luttrell. But I will never watch SGU, out of principle. I will watch these 4 SGA actors in other (non Stargate) shows and movies, though.

I’d love to see McKay come in and have some screen time with Eli. Also I’d love if Sheppard came in to give advice to Young on how to manage a population cut off from Earth (mostly) from his experience as Atlantis’s military commander. Then of course Daniel and Jack and Sam.

  48. Tmar_of_Vulcan
    July 3, 2010 at 7:57 am |

Just looking at it from a story point of view, who would the crew of the Destiny need to help them? If you’re looking for someone who has experience with being cut off from Earth, looking for resources, handling alien conflicts, etc. then John Sheppard would be your ‘go-to guy’. Elizabeth Weir would also be good, but she’s currently frozen in space somewhere. (I suppose they could thaw her out, but I doubt they’d bother.) Plus, Sheppard has the gene, which isn’t necessary on the Destiny, but you never know.

If you just want technical help, then of course Rodney is your guy. Zelenka would also be good. Help with translations, of course, would have to come from Daniel as he’s the expert in Ancient.

I’d love to see more crossover stuff; simply because it’s more believable when they all work for the SGC and the IOA.

The differing tones of the shows could be a problem, but as O’Neill has already been on, they can hardly use that old excuse. We’ve already seen the reaction of Colonel Young to O’Neill’s nonchalance, so there is a place for it in SGU.

A comment for those wanting Sheppard for the ATA Gene:

The only way that is plausible is with some new tech on Earth or if they get another Icarus planet and actually put him on the ship. The latter would be unlikely, as that would be, as presented right now, a one-way trip.

The stones won’t do it. That is a mind transfer, not a body transfer, so the DNA would not be his, thus no ATA gene.

As others have stated, outside of O’Neill and Daniel, the obvious choices are Carter and McKay, for consultation about the ship, especially the drives. I never did understand how Dr. Perry was the foremost expert on drive tech, other than the other two actors were not available / not desired for the story arc (to show a softer side of Rush).

As to any others… as stated, Zelenka. Only other possibles are medical people, so Keller or Beckett, as SG-1 didn’t have a strong doctor towards the end (Lam-e).

Since it’s not a physical swap, without an Icarus planet (or other dial capability), that leaves out any kind of need for a soldier type for fighting, as the soldier would only be good with a matched mind and body, so no Ronon, Tealc, Teyla, Lorne, Mitchell, etc…

Vala could be a possible, if they needed the mind of a thief / scoundrel, otherwise no real use.

Woolsey is possible, but unlikely. Only use could be for diplomacy, so unless it’s in the early episodes to deal with the Lucien Alliance, doubtful.

As for Todd, that could be a long-term tie-in, but doubtful. What could a non-feeding Wraith offer? Unless those aliens seen so far are bio-compatible with Wraith, and their ships have biotech (not seen really thus far), that’s kind of a dead end, as to get the biology there, you’d have to have a way to dial.

Sorry about the length…but in conclusion:

O’Neill, Daniel, Carter, McKay, Zelenka, Keller, and Beckett are the most likely choices. If they come up with a way to dial, then yeah, it opens up more, but otherwise it’d be the people with mental skillsets that are the likely choices…

FightforAtlantis is right. We went down this road in Season one. For a show that screams it’s a whole new world and departure from the old “inferior” SG they sure are hanging onto their old “comic” characters. Who knows, if they can bring in the Lucian Alliance they may bring back Apophis, this time sporting some spanking new disco clothes. This whole show and it’s producers are conflicted to say the least.

Yeah, wasn’t it like yesterday when the TPTB discarded the crew and cast of Atlantis, as bunch of has been comedians. unworthy of even a mention in SGU? I guess viewership numbers could not be met by trying to lure old SG1 viewers, using 2 seconds cameos by SG1 veteran actors, in this show, that was dark edgy gritty nutty and whatever other adjectives they tried to throw (Is it a show or a breakfast cerial?). Now Atlantis actors are required too? Come on. No self respecting Atlantis actor would come back to this show. only a bit part player who would blend in the background would do it. Fans have long memories. Actors might feel the wrath of the fans, if the fans feel let down. After all, it’s the fans that fight to keep actors in a series without getting “Killed”, or to get them “resurrected”. Don’t go back on us, Atlantis Cast. This show ain’t worth it.

I would also like to see Vala dealing with Lucian Alliance. I hoped to see an episode like that on SG1, but they were more focused on the Ori, so now that Lucian Alliance is in SGU, my hopes are back. As for Atlantis, well, except for a scientific matter with Rodney or some IOA stuff between Camille Wray / Richard Woolsey, I don’t know who could be useful. And even for those problems, I’m not sure if another character (made up for the occasion) wouldn’t be more suitable.
Anyway, I’m not fond of SGU and all the drama, so I hope they will not do “SGU version”, as someone said before me, of our beloved character from the Stargate Command and Atlantis Expedition. (Hey, maybe we will have some news about what happened to Atlantis after the end of SGA ?)

This is what I think they should do, bring in Mckay and Carter for their brains to help solve the ships tech before an alien armada gets to Destiny, Take Daniel too to help with translating and have that the first part episode, then in the premier get Teal’c and Ronan to jump on board some civilians to help them fight to even the odds, even add in Mitchell and Shepherd if they had to. Either that or figure out a way to bring Teal’c and Ronan to SGU through the Lucian alliance ships? Making this the end of a season 3 and start of season 4? Also bring back whats left of the Asgard since they left far away like the Destiny is… what do you think peeps!
