Stargate Universe has featured appearances from several members of the original cast of Stargate SG-1 during its first season. But what about Stargate Atlantis? That crossover that fans have been hoping for is officially happening!
Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed on his blog that two members of the Atlantis cast have been signed to appear in an episode of SGU‘s second season. The crossover will happen in episode 15, “Seizure,” written by Remi Aubuchon (likely airing in early 2011).
Season Two’s thirteenth episode, “Alliances,” is currently filming.
Of course, bringing in faces from the city of Atlantis means that certain outstanding questions from the end of that series need to be answered — or at least hinted at. Is the city still in San Francisco Bay (“Enemy At the Gate”)? If its gate supercedes Stargate Command for incoming wormholes, has Earth relocated its Stargate program to the city? And are Ronon and Teyla ever returning to the Pegasus Galaxy to continue the fight against the Wraith?
“There was a reluctance to move ahead with an SGA crossover, particularly on my part,” Mallozzi said, “because the feeling was it would step on the timing of the SGA movie, Stargate: Extinction, the events of which directly [followed] the Atlantis series finale, ‘Enemy At the Gate.’ But given the delay on the movie front and the idea premise pitched out by Remi Aubuchon and Brad Wright, it was decided to go ahead with the crossover. Not a big deal, but it will require some changes to the Stargate: Extinction timeline which, in turn, will beg a host of questions, some of which will be answered in episode #15, some of which won’t … at least not right away.”
Mallozzi assured fans that having the characters put in an appearance on SGU won’t have a negative impact on the Atlantis movie. (That script has been written and is awaiting a go-ahead from MGM.) “The crossover episode will only have a minimal effect on Stargate: Extinction (the heart of the story remains unchanged), and no effect on Stargate: Revolution,” he said.
For Extinction, the SGU appearance “would only necessitate some minor re-jigging to the opening.”
Mallozzi still expects the film will be produced, eventually.

So … need we even ask? Which SGA cast members do you most want to see on Stargate Universe?
(Thanks to Tanith and hatak24 for the tip)
I thought the whole premise of SGU was to move on and cast aside “the square-jawed comic book heros”. And yet here they are back at it. A few minutes of screen time with the SGA people won’t bring anyone back in droves. IMHO they’d be best just forgetting about the whole thing and staying with the current situation they’re stuck with.
Shep and Rodney would I’m sure be the obvious ones people would want to see. Keller or Beckett’s skills could be needed for a ship without a proficient doctor. If these people might be beyond the opening credits cast I guess Zelenka would be a good possibility too.
Ronon, Teyla, or Woolsey it’s harder to imagine having an excuse to be involved.
I’m thinking that Sheppard is in for sure. The other person though could be anyone, but I’m thinking McKay is probably going to be the second. Its probably not Tayla or Ronan as they can easily be written in as being back in the Pegasus galaxy. Zelenka could also be a choice but he is more towards a minor character and there is also Keller and Woolsey that could fit as a second character.
Also speaking of SG-1 characters, we still have yet to see Teal’c and Mitchell.
I am incredibly excited to see this crossover episode! Great idea and glad to hear that because of this it won’t cancel out the production of the SGA movie! Characters that I’d like to see appear…well I don’t like these two characters but looking at it logically, IOA Agent Richard Woolsey and Dr. Rodney McKay are the most obvious choices because of Camile Wray also being with the IOA and McKay’s understanding (if “understanding” is the word to use) of Ancient technology. I’d definitely like to see John Sheppard, Teyla Emmagan, Ronon Dex, & Jennifer Keller appear too but I… Read more »
Either McKay will come onto the ship and fix everything (which he should be able to do), or he will come on and won’t have a clue how to fix anything and Eli/Rush will provide the solution and one-up McKay. One of those two things will happen. I personally do not think that the SGA characters would fit in SGU at all. They are two completely different shows.
@Mentat – As Joe Mallozzi has pointed out a few times, an SGA crossover will have no impact on their renewal prospects, since the decision will be made long before this episode airs. I would imagine they’re bringing in the characters purely because they love them and know SGA fans who also watch SGU will enjoy it as well. I know I will!
Could the title of SEIZURE help us at all as to who may be in it, if it means seizure in medical terms then one of the candidates is Keller, whose medical mind may hold the key to something that could be contracted onboard Destiny and TJ is unable to help. Seizure could also mean something is taken, either by alien operatives on Earth or by the Destiny crew, who find a stash of stuff, maybe this could lead to McKay’s arrival, either in helping locate what has been taken on Earth or what the crew on Destiny have in… Read more »
AHH!!! SO EXCITED!!! I really hope it’s Mckay!! For the second character though I would think either Beckett because there is a lot of injury’s that need a proper Dr.(I never found Keller to be a good chief of medical). Woolsey would be another candidate, because Camille is completely useless. Or even maybe a B cast character like Zelenka would be cool. But whoever it ends up being I am totally stoked!! I can’t wait for that episode!!
yeah this should be awesome. btw, heres my take on it : http://tinyurl.com/27gwnsm
I’ve never seen SGU. I miss SGA so much though that it’s almost enough to make me check out the episodes where there’s the crossover. Hopefully it will be Mckay and Sheppard or maybe Dr. Beckett.
Seeing as TJ (that’s the medic right?) is pretty much wounded and down for the count, at least for now, I would expect to see Keller step in as temporary head surgeon. As for the other character, I think Mckay would be the best choice. Who else is as qualified as him (besides that handicapped lady whose name escapes me) to analyze the ancient tech? Those would be my two guesses for who is going to appear: Keller, and Mckay.
I’m still waiting for Teal’c to appear. After re-watching SG1 (on Season4 now), Teal’c has to be my favorite SG character.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Keller (maybe they need a doctor) and McKay (they need help with something).
Or McKay & Zelenka.
While McKay is one of my favourite characters, I would rather that it would be Zelenka and some other secondary character as to not steal attention away from SGU.
Kind of like Critical Mass in SGA. They only showed General Landry and Agent Berret.
For the friendly confines of Destiny, I’m thinking Todd and Michael.
@Alan, I have to agree, those two make the most sense. Woolsey always seems to be good at getting answers, and the IOA wants answers that Wray never seems to get, seeing how Young always shuts her out. McKay is obviously gonna fix the ship. I see McKay being on the verge of doing something incredible, then the communications stones suddenly cease functioning from then on and Eli and Rush spend many episodes trying to finish McKay’s work. Now that I think about it, @Lindsey has a point with Zelenka. Maybe it will be McKay and his sidekick going to… Read more »
One more thing I forgot to add, I really hope they give us some insights into just what they decided to do with Atlantis. Will they keep it in the MW and abandon Pegasus? If so, will they share their technology with the Travelers so they can continue the war? I gotta know!
@Mentat. They are moving on. This is a common thing in fiction, especially in franchises, to heighten the feeling of a living world or universe. No pun intended. A little cross over here and there is fine.
‘Tis a shame it won’t be Weir. She was my favourite.
So who thinks they will do one with SG1, or at least have Mitchell in one?
It’s gonna be like when Teal’c grew his hair long and then decided to get it cut for Continuum
Cant wait!!! but i really really want the movies now!!!
that’s one hell of WONDERFUL news!!!! Can’t wait :D :D
And it seems that SG1 and SGA movies still have a chance of happening…. Oh how I wish they would be given the green-light.
But I guess only time will tell :)
Okay, I’m going to be honest about the whole SGU series. I think that the idea is AMAZING but…They could’ve gone so many places with it, and unfortunately, they chose the dark side. The only thing that made me continue watching it is Eli. I think they’re trying to bring in an SGA character to expand their audience, so i hope Season 2 is a turning point for the series, Woolsy is definitely a good guess, and either Mckay will fix it or Zalenka will help them.
I think Keller and Woolsey – Keller as a stand-in for TJ, Woolsey as the go-to guy for Wray.
Still, I think I’ll just stick with Jo Graham & Co.’s book series “Stargate Atlantis: Legacy”, my hopes for the movie dwindled and died a long time ago.
I wonder how they decided which characters would be on the show. If they went with the most popular characters, that would be Sheppard and Rodney.
Story wise, I could see Rodney, Carter, and Woolsey. If they wanted to throw something out of left field– have Ronan show up (even though I can’t think of any logical reason to do that).
I also wonder where the characters will interact– both Stargate Command and Atlantis have communication stones. If they show the characters use the Atlantis stones, the producers would not have to reveal if Atlantis is on Earth or not.
Too bad it won’t be Iana, the ancient they found frozen but who could not, or would not speak. Somewhat like thinking how would it be for the evacuees from Atlantis to return to the Antarctic wilderness and a primitive scattered people on Earth. I’d like to see how would an actual Ancient interact with humans knowing there are are no other Ancients left? Could they be trusted.. good or bad.. like that crazy time traveling scientist. Seems like a perfect fit for SGU, a dark an brooding loner from the past. Shepard would make a good choice though, he’s… Read more »
Keller and McKay and they can switch with Eli and Chloe. The teaser preview for the episode can briefly Eli and Chloe kissing for some reason but its really Keller and McKay ;).
That’d drive all the “shippers” nuts.
This is awesome, but on the “Stargate: Extinction” thing…I have a feeling it will be a very long time before MGM ever greenlights it, if ever. I mean, they’re still sitting on their thumbs with “The Hobbit” because they’re friggin’ broke! Del Toro has even quit The Hobbit project because of the delays. What makes them think that they will greenlight the SGA movie (which would make them a little money) when they haven’t even greenlit The Hobbit (Which will make them TONS of money). I’m not holding my breath for that movie, but I am happy we will see… Read more »
Well, if the rating are anything to go by, RDA, AT and MS’s appearances haven;t really made a difference, so I am scratching my head at the tactics of this. Characterwise? I keep thinking which characters AND actors wold be easy to place storyline wise. The only ones I keep coming up with are McKay or Zelenka, and Beckett or Keller. David’s H and N, Jewel S and Paul M are all Vancouver based as far as I know, so it would be easy to slot them in for a one off appearance from a work schedule standpoint. Plus Zelenka… Read more »
MGM just make the SG1 and SGA movies already, get them done keep us fans happy and then they are out of the way.
Would like McKay and Sheppard to be in SGU, as if the Ep is called Seizure then they would need someone with a Military mind
I hope the crossover would not influence Extinction to much for the worse as having a crossover would eliminate the idea that Extinction takes place right after EATG
Ok what is this this another trick? To be fair I’m not very exciting by this new idea. TPTB announced some SGA characters will make guest appearances or cameos in sgu now they announced crossover. First I thought crossover was between 2 series that were on air. In that case SGA was cancelled 2 years ago and doesn’t exist anymore. I would like to see again Sheppard Mackay and all SGA team together and even the city but I don’t want crumbs of SGA. IMO it’s only one more bones to attempt to bring back SGA fans to improve the… Read more »
May I add this comment.
I think TPTB could choose characters they love and in that case it would be Mackay and Keller.
Keller IMO has never been appealing to me and even I like Mackay or DH characterization I will not watch it Keller being poor and whining character but she could fit with sgu atmosphere.
IMO it would be a bad choice.
All this is useless cos contracts would be signed.
In aadition I would not want to see SGA character loose their own identity to look like nothing i.e O’Neill without his cynicism and humor I didn’t recognize him in sgu.
@ domdom
it does not matter whether the ratings going up or not because the decision for the renewal will be made in the winter break. After EP 10.
And Character do evolve with the time
@altera Except for the fact for the 10 first eps rates were better than the last ones. Worse ep 9 got the lower rates of the first 10 eps. If sgu was renewed it was cos the contract ran for 2 years and this is the only reason of the renewal. In second half the rates keep going down and stayed around 1.4 and it was the first season. SGA did an average of 1.7 and sgu 1.6. SGA did better in its last season than sgu in its first one. I think advertisers can’t share this opinion and Sy-fy… Read more »
Why do writers put all encompassing statements like “That crossover that fans have been hoping for” in their articles? I infact dread that this is happening. SG:A in my honest opinion, was crap and in oh so many ways its not even funny. The character choices, the settings, hell the over all plot with the wraith and episode to episode situations were all poor and to add insult to injury the series finally was a big “F*** you” to the viewers, what with the wraith suddenly being able to get to earth, ronan’s death and 5 minutes later ressurection and… Read more »
what I mean is that the Crossover Episode does not count for the renewal. I do agree to your statement that the ratings for a renewal should be better. But ep 15 does not count for this decision.
What is the point of getting McKay or Zelenka? This story line vehemently denied that Sam Carter, Daniel Jackson, Rodney McKay or Radek Zelenka were NOT the foremost experts of the Ancient Tech. It was Dr. Nicholas Rush, and Dr. Eleanor Perry (Who according to the casting call, was the only person “who may be able to save the ship”), or even Chloe, who suddenly received enlightenment and stopped being legally blond. So why bother with those 2 nobody’s (McKay/Zelenka)from SGA? I mean, if there’s burnt out lightbulbs that making the ship dark and ominous, surely there’s other people who… Read more »
Rodney would be the best choice, as he’s more or less the expert on all things Ancient! And what is Destiny if not a ship built by the Ancients! In point of fact if the producers weren’t so dead set on making SGU a serious series, it’d probably have been Rodney on Destiny rather than inventing Dr. Rush. And my second choice for a crossover would be Sheppard!
@wganubis. Why are you so aggressive toward SGA. If it was this crap you try to convice you or us I don’t see why production TPTB produced 5 seasons. Can you respect the ones who love this show? Your insults are even not good arguement to defend sgu. I think the figures speak more than other things and sgu did either the same of SGA or less. You can accept some like what you dislike and avoid to use some rude words insults and more arguements. IMO sgu is more an insult toward the “old” fans and SG franchise than… Read more »
Rodney did not know everything about the Ancient Tech. Destiny is on a whole another level. It is not the modern Tech, he knows very well. Here exists no adapter and no ancient gene. This is not the kind of Tech he can use in his own way.
Rush is the expert for this special Ancient Stuff. He is a logical thinker driven by his own intellect. He spend 2 years for the ninth chevron address and he is very miscellaneous
@ domdom
this standalone statement has nothing to do with a crossover of the characters. Standalone means that this show isn´t bound on the same pace/same look.
SGA was not really a spin off. It was more like a different way to go for SG1. And SGU is standalone on this case.
@altera But with bound with SG1 ans SGA. I asked to JM and he confirmed it’s not anymore a stand-alone show even if the format or the style is really different. I see crossover between CSI and without a trace but these series are still alive and in your case SGA is sadly over. IMO SGA is a spin off another team different of SG1 through the gate with eight chevron in another galaxy. The universe of sgu is obviously different the only common point is the first gate. So it’s another spin off with some bounds with all the… Read more »
@altera
I agree for some of part about the crossover would not be related mainly but if the rates are pretty good this could help but not only this ep.
@altera: When I read your comment, I LOL’d (really loud). “Rush is the expert for this special Ancient Stuff”. Is this Stargate canon, or pure conjecture? are we filling the blanks as we go along, so that it fits nice and perfect? let’s look at this way, look up “Baghdad Battery” or “Parthian Battery” on Google. This is non fiction ancient tech (these artifacts would predate Alessandro Volta’s 1800 invention of the electrochemical cell by more than a millennium). A current day Scientist need to see that device only for a millisecond to realize what the heck it is. Do… Read more »
Rush is a logical cold blooded Scientist. His own Intellect leads him to understand the old Tech faster. He is more versed.
In my opinion he is better for this situation than Rodney. He has more Time to learn the whole Ancient stuff. Rodney is more specialized in Ancient Tech.
Let’s see, I’d watch the ep if Sheppard shows up, he’s sufficiently dark side enough at times to get things done on Destiny. Any of the others would lead me to watching the clips on YouTube or DVR’ing and then FF to the SGA parts. I can see reasons beign written for any of them to be in the show, it’s sci-fi, be creative! Best case scenario would be Sheppard and McKay showing up, they were the backbone of what made SGA great for me, it would be good to see them back together again – and maybe it would… Read more »
how about mckay giving a hand getting the chair working. with keller along for a honeymoon ;)
As I’ve said before. I don’t want any Atlantis characters on SGU. Just because SGU’s ratings aren’t doing so well, doesn’t mean they have to use SGA characters as a ratings ploy. After all didn’t they already try that with the SG1 characters? And I thought Mallozi and everyone else told us that this new stargate show is for a different audience–one that’s “younger” and doesn’t “live in their mother’s basement” as Brian J. Smith puts it. I’m confused. But if you have to ask, I’d like Todd the wraith to guest star. I’m sure he’ll fine plenty of reasons… Read more »
