Your podcasts are excellent.

The one thing i keep getting back to is that despite the fact that i wanted to love this show, and i religiously watched SGU on tv, and i even bought the DVD for season 1… SGU was a pile of steaming s***.

Put it this way, if i wasnt a Stargate fan, i would have stopped watching after episode 6 “Water”.

Hey, thanks for linking to my rewatch blog! (I’m number ‘Two’). I think I’m getting more into the swing of it now (just typed up /Singularity/).

Well, an elightening podcast to say the least. It was interesting to note that the “main discussion” part of the podcast was more a huge “quibble” section more than anything else. It’s nice to hear some purely personal opinions on the podcast. (not because I happen to agree with alot of it, but it “feels” more “real”. At any rate, thanks Darren and David for the quick turn-around on this one, it is apreciated.

I for one, enjoyed SGU. Yes, if it hadn’t had Stargate in the name I probably would not have watched it, but that’s why we’re Stargate fans. If Enterprise or Voyager had not been related to Star Trek, how many of us would have bothered with THAT show? And SGU was FAR more watchable than Voyager or Enterprise! And while yes, season 1 had some MAJOR MAJOR faults in pacing, I think they delivered on season 2 and if you don’t say that season 2 was a big improvement chances are you decided to check out after season 1 and… Read more »

You lost me when declared Defying Gravity a great show. That show was a bad one, boring to tears. I was thinking at one time of proposing an alternative to the death penalty: watch SGU, Caprica and DG for eight hours a day, for the next five years, and if you don’t kill yourself in the mean time, you get your freedom. I just finished rewatching Firefly and I can not believe some people compare it to SGU. Firefly was brilliant, SGU just a bad joke. I really hope someday the people in power will return to making real SciFi,… Read more »

Due to work, I didn’t get to watch much of SGU when it was on Sci-Fi (or Syfy, whatever). I didn’t care for it, mostly since it was not anything like SG-A. However, due to some down time at home, I did buy the the S1 SGU DVDs, and found that I really, really like it. I have just received S2 and look forward to watching it this weekend. I click on the subtitles, that has greatly enhanced watching it. I am sorry that it didn’t last at least a 5-season run. Yes, some of the eps are not too… Read more »

I strongly believe this is the Stargate we’ve been waiting for. High drama, real tension and fantastic acting, especially by Robert Carlyle. I really can’t understand why people don’t like this show. It boggles my mind. I love the quirky antics of O’Neill, Jackson, Sheppard & McKay as much as the next person. But it’s been done, again and again. I think SGU is a refreshing take on the franchise. Why not give the sci fi element a little realism? Why not have aliens on a show that don’t speak english for a change? Why not break away from the… Read more »

I too loved SGU. I just watched the repeat of the finale on Sky HD and once again was captivated. Oh, and thanks for not censoring the final episode, Sky (“F**k the French” was still visible).

Darren and David, just a comment about the Stargate Rewatch: I’ve really enjoyed your podcast reviews of the SGU episodes, and was wondering if you would do something similar for the SG-1 and SGA seasons (ie. review episodes or seasons after the fact and air listner comments)? I know you are doing the commentaries, but I’ve really enjoyed the post episode discussions. About SGU as a series: I really enjoyed parts of Season 1, the cgi and production standards being first class, but friends I invited to try the series found the pacing slow and switching bodies (stones) confusing. The… Read more »

Thanks for the podcast. Made me realize that I thought they rushed a lot of things in season 2 almost like they had a feeling that they wouldn’t get a season three and tried to wrap some things up. SGU had a brillian first 12 episodes then dipped and the Second half of season 2 got the mojo back.

But over all for SGU, refer to Kenna’s post, it was the strong sci-fi that I have been waiting for from the Stargate Franchise.
