We’ve been waiting months to see Michael Shanks’ new supernatural medical drama, and tonight is the night! Saving Hope makes its debut at 9/8c on NBC in the U.S. and simultaneously on CTV in Canada.
Charlie Harris (Shanks), the charismatic Chief of Surgery of Toronto’s Hope-Zion Hospital, ends up in a coma, leaving the hospital in chaos — and his fiancée and fellow surgeon, Alex Reid, in a state of shock. Along with newly-arrived star surgeon, Joel Goran, Alex races to save Harris’ life. As the action unfolds, comatose Dr. Harris explores the hospital halls in “spirit” form, not sure if he’s a ghost or a figment of his own imagination. Reid, along with her fellow doctors, press on to save his life and those of their other patients, as they deal with the complicated and courageous decisions that are made in their daily struggle to keep hope alive.
Shanks played Dr. Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1. Erica Durance (Smallville) and Daniel Gillies (The Vampire Diaries) also star.
The show will continue to air Thursdays at 9/8c for its 13-episode season.

Can’t wait!!!
Good luck Michael!
Good luck Michael & all the cast & crew of Saving Hope!
Yes good luck because I probably won’t watch past the pilot. It’s not because I don’t think it is good but because it is on when one of my favorite shows are on. Its once upon a time all over again. So thanks NBC. Why can’t it be at ten.
Watching it right now, it’s great so far! I should be used to terrible things happening to him, heck,I saw him die how many times on Stargate. But wow, so sad.
I found it an intriguing start to a new series. Michael and Erica both come from pivotal roles in TV series that lasted ten seasons a piece. I’m hoping that will give them the luck to last another ten seasons with this show. I’ve missed seeing those two on the air. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of Michael and Erica.
Really like Shanks and Durance. We watched every variant of StarGate and all of Smallville. The rest of the cast is good also but I can do without the blood and gore if it is like this next week then my wife and I will be former viewers. You can tell stories without all of that crap.
it was a very good show i loved it
Ratings weren’t all that good in the US: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/06/08/tv-ratings-thursday-duets-rookie-blue-and-breaking-pointe-fall-premieres-for-take-me-out-and-the-choice/137299/
Hopefully it did better in Canada.
Just watched it…it has promise….Michael seems to be the lynchpin but possibly won’t get so many of the “dramatic storylines” as the other two leads…but he’s matured into an understated and fine commentator…his voice is gorgeous, he has aged so handsomely and I’m very glad to see he’s carrying on with the “and Michael Shanks” at the end credits!..:)
Lens flare is a tad annoying, but I can live with it so far!..:D
Just finished watching it on the NBC site since I missed the preview. Loved it! I cried like six times just through that one episode!
Excellent ratings in Canada. Not so much in the US. Hope it lives on up North.
CTV & Canada put their hearts into promoting..not so sure about NBC so much..:(
I don’t recall seeing any heavy promotion on NBC, so that certainly can’t help the initial ratings. Personally, I watched because of Shanks, and I enjoyed it but wasn’t really blown away either. I’m uncertain how long a story premise like this can survive. If nothing else, I hope they won’t just pull it off the air and will give it an appropriate finale (something NBC isn’t that good at doing).
A few years ago NBC did something very similar by picking up a new Canadian show called The Listener but stopped showing it after half a season but its still going in Canada and now in the third season. I hope NBC doesn’t make the same mistake.
