The long wait is over for fans of Travelers, the science fiction drama from Stargate co-creator Brad Wright. Season Three of the hit show is now streaming on Netflix — and if it isn’t on your holiday binge list yet, it really should be.
The new season includes 10 new episodes of the Vancouver-based show, which chronicles a team of time travelers from the distant future who take over the lives of ordinary people in the present day. Thousands of these “Travelers” all over the world follow the directions of an advanced artificial intelligence — all part of a grand plan to rewrite the future and save the human race.
Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) headlines the series that also stars Mackenzie Porter, Jared Abrahamson, Nesta Cooper, Reilly Dolman, and Stargate Universe‘s Patrick Gilmore (“Dale Volker”). (McCormack also directed the season premiere, titled “Ilsa.”)
For its first two seasons Travelers was a co-production of Netflix and Canada’s premium cable TV network Showcase. This year Netflix takes over as the sole production company and worldwide distributor.
Netflix offers this description for where the story will go in Season Three:
The third season finds Grant MacLaren (McCormack) and his team of highly trained operatives from the future pushed to the limit and dealing with themes of loyalty, trust, death, and the ever-growing power of Artificial Intelligence. With their existence now leaked to the world, the team must find a way to keep knowledge of the Travelers program from the general public, while continuing to perform missions under the watchful eye of the FBI. Each team member will face their own personal breaking point, all while trying to stop the Faction, hunt down elusive Traveler 001, and to save the world from a terrible future.
Former Stargate SG-1 co-star Amanda Tapping is among the familiar faces who pop up in the Vancouver-based show. Tapping returns in Season Three to both direct and appear on screen as Dr. Perrow, a recurring character who took a decidedly BIG turn in the second season finale.
Episode #304 is even titled “Perrow.”
Tapping spoke with GateWorld earlier this fall about her work on Travelers. Among the many shows she directs she said that Travelers is among her favorite, “because it’s Brad. And I love Brad Wright. To the ends of the earth I love that man. He’s responsible for so much of my good fortune.”
