The city of Vancouver, British Columbia was home to the Stargate franchise for 14 years of television production — and today it’s still home to Gatecon, the original Stargate fan convention.
Entirely run by fans, Gatecon held its first event back in the year 2000. That makes next year’s convention the organization’s twentieth anniversary. This past weekend the dial-home device started to light up once again, as organizers announced the dates and initial guest list for Gatecon: Full Circle.
The event is set for August 27 to 30, 2020, at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport in Richmond.
Stargate Universe cast member David Blue headlines the first batch of special guests for Full Circle. Blue played fan-favorite Eli Wallace on the show, which aired from 2009 to 2011.
Also confirmed for the 2020 event are Teryl Rothery (“Janet Fraiser”), Erick Avari (“Kasuf”), Colin Cunningham (“Major Davis”), Patrick Currie (“Fifth”), Mika McKinnon (SGU science advisor), Barry Campbell (Stargate: Continuum), Mark Haynes (American Mythology comic author), and Sabine Bauer (Fandemonium novelist).
Additional guests will be announced in the weeks and months to come.
The previous Gatecon convention was held in September of 2018, drawing hundreds of fans from around the world. In the final tally, some 40 Stargate actors and other special guests appeared.

If you’ve never been to a sci-fi fan convention, the intimate and approachable atmosphere makes Gatecon a great choice! The convention also features an exclusive banquet, costume competition for cosplayers, wall-to-wall stage panels, autograph and photo opportunities, a dealer’s room, and a legendary charity auction. And there are fellow fans to make friends with around every corner.

A newly updated Gatecon Web site is on the way. In the meantime, keep your chevrons locked on GateWorld for the latest.
