Legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has a brand new anthology series debuting on Netflix this month, and Stargate’s own David Hewlett is starring in an episode.
Just in time for your Halloween viewing, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities will roll out on Netflix over four days beginning Tuesday, October 25. The horror series has a total of eight episodes.
Hewlett stars as “Masson” in the episode titled “Graveyard Rats,” which pits his character against creep-tastic creatures. Vincenzo Natali (Splice) directs, with a story from Henry Kuttner that was first published in Weird Tales magazine in 1936. IMDb lists the episode’s premiere date as Friday, October 28.
Hewlett appears in three quick shots in the series trailer:
In Kuttner’s original story, Old Masson is a cemetery caretaker who must deal with a colony of abnormally large rats who are biting into his grave-robbing scheme.
Hewlett, of course, played Dr. Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis. Genre fans have also recently been enjoying his turn as the villain on the Apple TV+ series See, which stars his former Atlantis co-star Jason Momoa. See just wrapped up its third and final season on Friday.
Hewlett previously worked with Natali in the classic film Cube, and with del Toro in the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water.
Other cast members for Cabinet of Curiosities include Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone), Rupert Grint (Harry Potter), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), and Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead).
Weird!? I've never noticed all those little cabinet doors and tentacles before!? Anyway…All the best to you, Birthday Boy, @RealGDT! https://t.co/p1coJBDs6i
