Boost your chances of getting published at GateWorld! Here are a few tips on the sorts of news items we are looking for and where you can find news on the Web.
We love keeping up on what the main cast members of Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and SGU are doing beyond the world of Stargate, but it’s tough to keep up on all their work. That’s where you come in! If you follow one of the actors’ official site, Twitter feed, etc., submit a news story for any major headlines — especially casting in a movie or TV show. (Note that we generally avoid reporting on the actors’ personal lives.)
Often TV / sci-fi genre sites, as well as magazines on the news stand, publish interviews with Stargate cast and crew members, and other special features. A nice, simple news submission is to find a few good quotes (one or two topics, around two or three paragraphs) and quoting it in your piece, with a link back to the original to encourage fans to read the full thing.
We want to keep readers up-to-date on Stargate merchandise like novels, guide books, DVD and Blu-ray releases, video games, etc. If you’re a fan of one of these, help us keep tabs on the latest announcements and submit news items for them. Amazon is a good place to watch, along with the publisher / distributor’s own Web site, of course.
It doesn’t need to be breaking news to be worth publishing. You might want to write a more featurey piece about a character or theme in the Stargate universe. Analyze the mythology. Come up with a Top 5 or Top 10 list. We’d love to publish these sort of fun features on a regular basis.
Here’s the best tip we can give you for landing breaking Stargate news: With Google Reader, you can subscribe to RSS feeds from your favorite Web sites. You can also subscribe to news feeds from Google News using keywords like “Stargate” and “SGU.” That way, whenever a Stargate-related headline hits the Web, you’ll be among the first to know — and can submit a story to GateWorld! RSS is everywhere these days, so that you can subscribe to updates from virtually any site (often with keywords) rather than having to revisit those sites on a daily basis.
