Kohal stasis pod

Stasis unit of unknown origin, used by members of both Thalan's people and Phoebus's people. The unit possesses a unique memory-storage capacitor located just above the headrest. If the pod determines the occupant will be unable to survive, the consciousness is downloaded as an imprint into this "black box" so that whoever recovers the unit can -- through a willing host -- give an accurate account of the last events he or she witnessed.
This "cellular imprint" only lasts for a number of hours, long enough to allow the individual to get his or her final affairs in order before vanishing entirely.
KEY EPISODE
The Long Goodbye - Colonel Sheppard's Puddle Jumper recovers two stasis pods in the Kohal system -- the last survivors of two long-dead peoples.
