United States Senator, probably a member of the same political party as President Henry Hayes. In the President's opinion Senator McKnight won his office by riding on the coat tails of the Hayes-Kinsey presidential ticket -- and now owed him a commitment to the crime bill in return.
The President's aide, Stan, informed him on his first day in office that McKnight wanted to reschedule their meeting -- which Hayes took as a sign that the new Senator was avoiding him.
