Colonel in the United States Air Force, who was likely in command of the starship Prometheus after William Ronson and prior to the battle over Antarctica. Kirkland stepped down from the command chair when President Henry Hayes assigned Major General George Hammond there on temporary duty.

He remained on board when General John Jumper ordered the vessel to launch, helping to take the ship into the battle and protect SG-1 from Anubis's interstellar invasion fleet.
