I see that and think “Ascended Ancient”, but hopefully it’ll be something else.

A search team combs a desert planet for a vital mineral to scrub away the carbon dioxide that’s accumulating on the Destiny. Meanwhile, Chloe (Elyse Levesque) reaches out to her mother via the communication stones.

I hope ther is more in the story I REALLY HOPE

, Maybe its an ascended sandstorm, lolz.

@Arnold, Me too man, but I’m keeping hope that its hard to fit everything into a one paragraph synopsis and I’m sure they want to keep somethings hidden.

This has all been done before! They strand on an ancient base, that’s ready to collapse…

I hope there is going to be something more in the story…

hrm, sounds a bit boring in all honesty, I hope it has some decent twisted aliens in it or something..even if their just predatorial animals.

Why don’t you guys just wait until you actually see the episode before passing judgments? Geez!

I know they said this series would have less action and I am open to that, but this is three hours worth of zero action whatsoever. I really hope the show improves because it has really disappointed me when I had high hopes. Here’s to next week!

Like I am assuming most of us have, I have seen everything stargate…Every episode, every movie, and I need to say that although I was upset with the cancelation of Atlantis, I am extremely satisfied with the evolution to Universe. The way the episodes flow as one draws me in waiting for more. I cant wait for next week. Job well done team.

Over all it was a good episode. I like the serious tone the show takes.

I too have seen everything stargate… at least 3 times. I personally am most impressed with SGU. I am excited about the upcoming SG1 and SGA movies, but I look more forward to every week of SGU. Keep up the great work guys. I’m positive it will only get better with time, and it is already great.

I was won over w/ original “Stargate” movie & been a fan ever since. This premiere just shows me the genius of the show’s makers & cast. It needed a more serious opening & that’s what we’ve been given. (These folks will carry the story; any use of exotic aliens & scenes can wait, but I’m sure will be forthcoming. Gotta admit SYFY is a mainstay of my TV enjoyment as a retiree. Bring it on, guys! :D

i dun think i’ve seen such a lousy episode of any stargate show in a really long time.

I was a little concerned with the first 2 especially because there use of flashbacks. I’m glad to see that flashbacks arnt going to be a main thing, was only used for a very short period with LT Scott in this episode and it fitted in well. I also like there unique way of contacting Earth, its way better than Atlantis’s way in my opinion since this way they can inform Earth of what’s going on but they can’t really get much help from them. I also thought that a lack of action would of put me off and I… Read more »

I would like to add it was neat seeing 3star General o’neill making an appearance. It felt good because it gave me the SG1 feeling.

SG1 characters will make appearances on SGU which will only make it better and soon enough it will feel like SGU is apart of the Stargate family.

This episode was better, but not by much. The more I get to know these characters, the more I want most of them to be killed.

Yes, still in two minds about this. I am torn between loving the original SG1 characters and the structure of the series, with this new format. For me the problem are the new characters. Don’t really like any of them. YET.

I loved everything about this episode except Greer, he’s seriously turning into the Mckay character is terms of me just wanting to smash his head in. Seriously though, how this guy would of even been able to join the SG program with a temper like his is beyond stupid. So what if he had a bad childhood, who hasn’t, you dont see me walking round threatening to shoot ppl for no reason what so ever. On the other hand, I find myself falling in love (figuritively *sp?* speaking) with Scott. His character seems so conflicted and more substantial then anything… Read more »

Maybe I missed it, but was there any consequence for Eli sticking his arm in the gate and “holding” the ship??? I didn’t see one, and to me that means we just found a loop hole that totally negates the drama that having the timer adds to the series.

@Outbreaker You know what Battlestar Galactic is a ripoff of? You know what Voyager is a ripoff of? Lost in Space. Truly the definition of what those shows are. But guess what, they are not the same as Lost in Space, they are different. as is Universe. Deal with it, if you don’t like it don’t watch it, but don’t come here and slander without substance. @taliguy91085 The ship was trying to jump while Eli’s hand was in the event horizon, you could probably hold it for say…3 minutes, but anything beyond that and the ship would rip itself apart… Read more »

How many more episodes to I need to watch in the hope that this show may get better. Air 3 was just terrible. I am geniually amazed at how bad SGU has been so far.

@ blackhawlk

I don’t understand. From your post it sounds like you are just saying,”OMG SGU is terrible” just to say it. This doesnt just go for you. There have been several people that have said the same thing and had nothing to back up their talk.

If you don’t like it, stop. It’s not like all these people whining on here for everyone to watch x episodes of SGU before judging it are watching x episodes of every show on TV before judging those.

Scott Watson

Agreed, if after all 3 parts of ‘Air’ you still don’t like SGU then I suggest that you stop watching.

The only reason to continue watching is if you have enjoyed it so far or are still undecided one way or the other. Otherwise why watch.

I would agree that if you are going to complain then dont watch it. I have been watching stargate since it first aired on showtime in 1997. I like this new format that the have chosen to use. If any of you remember that the direction of Atlantis was suppose to be like universe but they ended up making it a sister show with sg-1.

I was trying to give it a chance but don’t worry I have no intention of watching anymore. I loved Atlantis instantly, especially the cast but there is nothing appealing about any of the SGU cast or the story.

Well I’m going to keep watching it as i am intrigued by it. However i do have some grips about it. One being the total rip off of the music score from Battlestar galactica, come on guys you can do something a little different, maybe even change the key!!!! THe other being the terrible writing. I mean really, the fact that it took 3 epsiodes to span all that out really does show terrible writing. I quite agree that the whole putting arm in to stop the wormhole closing does make a mockery of the ‘oh no, we’ve only got… Read more »

The 12 hour thing still could work. When the time is up the ship tries to jump back into FTL but I believe since Eli’s arm was in the gate it was like a sort of anchor (A security measure to ensure that anyone currently in the Stargate gets through). But since the ship is still trying to jump into FTL the stress on the ship itself could tear it apart if it remained for a good while after the allotted time.

Warning… spoilage ahead… I watched it once and immediately felt a bit more ‘at home’ with this show. Using subtle nuance in writing to tell us Lt. Scott is damaged goods, rather than a moaning sweaty mess, was more in line with the Stargate mentality. The only difference was it was not a joke with a wink and a nod, but a serious comment on the damage that the expectations of others might have on this group in this situation. I enjoyed Greer and Rush fighting in the sand, but did get tired of the constant bickering about military seriousness… Read more »

@bluecat As stated by many people it seems as though the ship would be critically damaged if they attempted to use the ‘arm through the puddle’ to stop the jump for longer than the 10 seconds we saw, as it was moaning and groaning like a submarine that’s lost hull integrity. Also if you go over your SG history, the communication stones, once used, are linked to the person who originally held them. Although at one point Dr. Lee was able to reset them there is no guarantee that the crew on Destiny has the means to accomplish this goal,… Read more »

I find that despite the best efforts of the promo material to make people distrust Rush, he’s one of the more likable characters on the show. He certainly seems to have a better idea of how to keep everybody on the ship alive than the other characters with any authority, even if he’s not very people-friendly.

Carlyle is really shining as the new lead.

I haven’t watched Battlestar Galactica so everything is a lot fresher too me. However I don’t mind a little similarity in music scores and scenarios… as long as the show is interesting enough and intelligent enough for me too keep watching. And you have to look on the differences as much as the similarities, they can always go to another world in an episode, whereas in battlestar they can’t. The ship isn’t theirs, so they don’t know how everything works. They are undermanned and the people they do have aren’t trained too work the ship (they basically have no idea… Read more »

love your name ‘canonfodder’. lol! I mentioned this over on Mr. Mallozzi’s weblog that there is a scene just before Eli’s Planet of the Apes speech that shows an overhead view of the team splitting up before they actually agreed to split up. oopsie! And zack ‘spoilage’ is sooo funny, too. I have been watching stargate forever it seems, and am not really into the science and gun types and space vessel information. so I guess I was really there for the relationships anyway, though I do like a good shoot-em-up! so SGU is in that direction. But they do… Read more »

Well, gave a shot to 3rd part just to be fair and it was somewhat better than first 2 – a little less whining and a little more action (the end was good with that arm stretching into the event horizon, was at least some hint at something smart where we were used to lots more of it in previous series). Still the characters annoy me by their nervousness but some of them show some hope of improvement. Well, there’s more to see I guess, although it’s really not that interesting than it used to be but then again it… Read more »
