The series premiere of Stargate Universe concludes tonight in the U.S. and Canada, with “Air, Part 3″ screening on Syfy Channel and SPACE (respectively).
It’s on Syfy at 9 p.m. (8 Central), followed by the season premiere of Amanda Tapping’s Sanctuaryat 10. In Canada, those two are swapped: watch Sanctuary at 9 Eastern and SGU at 10.
Here’s a preview of the episode! (Beware of SPOILERS, particularly in the Syfy description below.)
From Syfy:
With the air supply failing on the Destiny, a team disembarks to a desert-like planet in search of the mineral needed to scrub the ship’s air of carbon dioxide. After testing numerous sand samples without success, and with their window of opportunity closing fast, the group opts to split into two to cover more ground, despite the unbearable heat. While one team presses on to find the treasured mineral, the other has another goal in mind. When it is apparent that Dr. Rush (ROBERT CARLYLE) can’t go on, Lt. Scott (BRIAN J. SMITH) decides to go it alone and orders Sgt. Greer (JAMIL WALKER SMITH) to return to safety with the exhausted scientist.
Meanwhile, with life on the ship looking bleak, and with the aid of the communication stones, Col. Young (LOUIS FERREIRA) reports in to O’Neill, and Chloe (ELYSE LEVESQUE), has one last chance to see her mother.
From TV Guide:
A search team combs a desert planet for a vital mineral to scrub away the carbon dioxide that’s accumulating on the Destiny. Meanwhile, Chloe (Elyse Levesque) reaches out to her mother via the communication stones.

@Arnold, Me too man, but I’m keeping hope that its hard to fit everything into a one paragraph synopsis and I’m sure they want to keep somethings hidden.
I know they said this series would have less action and I am open to that, but this is three hours worth of zero action whatsoever. I really hope the show improves because it has really disappointed me when I had high hopes. Here’s to next week!
Like I am assuming most of us have, I have seen everything stargate…Every episode, every movie, and I need to say that although I was upset with the cancelation of Atlantis, I am extremely satisfied with the evolution to Universe. The way the episodes flow as one draws me in waiting for more. I cant wait for next week. Job well done team.
I too have seen everything stargate… at least 3 times. I personally am most impressed with SGU. I am excited about the upcoming SG1 and SGA movies, but I look more forward to every week of SGU. Keep up the great work guys. I’m positive it will only get better with time, and it is already great.
I was won over w/ original “Stargate” movie & been a fan ever since. This premiere just shows me the genius of the show’s makers & cast. It needed a more serious opening & that’s what we’ve been given. (These folks will carry the story; any use of exotic aliens & scenes can wait, but I’m sure will be forthcoming. Gotta admit SYFY is a mainstay of my TV enjoyment as a retiree. Bring it on, guys! :D
I was a little concerned with the first 2 especially because there use of flashbacks. I’m glad to see that flashbacks arnt going to be a main thing, was only used for a very short period with LT Scott in this episode and it fitted in well.
I also like there unique way of contacting Earth, its way better than Atlantis’s way in my opinion since this way they can inform Earth of what’s going on but they can’t really get much help from them.
I also thought that a lack of action would of put me off and I would of liked to of seen a little more in the first 2. But this time I thoroughly enjoyed the episode and there was next to no action in it.
I like the way that SGU is done see it lasting many years to come.
Pff this first 3 episolds were lame.
This is a bad Battlegate Voyager serie.
This serie gose in me collection of: Serie for Brian dead mainstream people :)
Yes, still in two minds about this. I am torn between loving the original SG1 characters and the structure of the series, with this new format. For me the problem are the new characters. Don’t really like any of them. YET.
I loved everything about this episode except Greer, he’s seriously turning into the Mckay character is terms of me just wanting to smash his head in. Seriously though, how this guy would of even been able to join the SG program with a temper like his is beyond stupid. So what if he had a bad childhood, who hasn’t, you dont see me walking round threatening to shoot ppl for no reason what so ever. On the other hand, I find myself falling in love (figuritively *sp?* speaking) with Scott. His character seems so conflicted and more substantial then anything we’ve seen at ALL from Atlantis and most of SG-1 barring O’niell of course. There is just so much depth to him and we are only at episode 3, cant wait to see the rest, the same goes with Chloe, I LOVE HER, the scene with her mother was heartbreaking :(
Maybe I missed it, but was there any consequence for Eli sticking his arm in the gate and “holding” the ship??? I didn’t see one, and to me that means we just found a loop hole that totally negates the drama that having the timer adds to the series.
@Outbreaker
You know what Battlestar Galactic is a ripoff of?
You know what Voyager is a ripoff of?
Lost in Space.
Truly the definition of what those shows are.
But guess what, they are not the same as Lost in Space, they are different. as is Universe. Deal with it, if you don’t like it don’t watch it, but don’t come here and slander without substance.
@taliguy91085
The ship was trying to jump while Eli’s hand was in the event horizon, you could probably hold it for say…3 minutes, but anything beyond that and the ship would rip itself apart (I am assuming, by the amount of stress the ship was under in the small amount of time that Eli was in the Event Horizon.) It is an interesting thing, because what it does do is extent the time if you need too, but it also means that you can have an really interesting end too an episode where someone has to step through and leave someone behind…
I see that and think “Ascended Ancient”, but hopefully it’ll be something else.

DarkElfa | October 9 @ 4:23 pmThis has all been done before! They strand on an ancient base, that’s ready to collapse…
I hope there is going to be something more in the story…
SiMz | October 9 @ 5:05 pmhrm, sounds a bit boring in all honesty, I hope it has some decent twisted aliens in it or something..even if their just predatorial animals.
AbstractAlien | October 9 @ 5:18 pm@SiMz its a ship not a base.
Tanith | October 9 @ 7:10 pmWhy don’t you guys just wait until you actually see the episode before passing judgments? Geez!

AMarinersnyper | October 10 @ 1:20 amOver all it was a good episode. I like the serious tone the show takes.

HaxMii | October 10 @ 1:44 amNow I saw Episode 3 and guess what the Word “disappointed” dont covers it.

AJMonk | October 10 @ 3:14 ami dun think i’ve seen such a lousy episode of any stargate show in a really long time.

any clues to about the little ship that detached itself from the destiny at the end of air part 3?
captain_k_roberts | October 10 @ 10:50 pmI would like to add it was neat seeing 3star General o’neill making an appearance. It felt good because it gave me the SG1 feeling.
SG1 characters will make appearances on SGU which will only make it better and soon enough it will feel like SGU is apart of the Stargate family.
angellq | October 10 @ 11:50 pmThis episode was better, but not by much. The more I get to know these characters, the more I want most of them to be killed.
Stormin | October 11 @ 1:07 amI think the show is doing great so far. I am starting to like each character more and more.
