Colonel Samantha Carter will be back on the small screen before the first season of Stargate Universe is over. Actress Amanda Tapping confirmed to The Huffington Post that she will return for another guest appearance at the end of the season.
“I’ve done two episodes,” Tapping told the site. “I did their first two-parter and I’m at the very end of their season. And I just shot that a few weeks ago. So I started their season and I’m ending their season, which was very cool. But I didn’t get to play with anyone. If they were ever to have me come back, I’d want to be with people. I’m kind of off on my ship, which I think is awesome.”
The actress made a guest appearance in “Air, Part 1,” with Colonel Carter now in command of the Earth ship Hammond. The ship ferried characters to the Icarus Base, then unsuccessfully defended the outpost from an enemy attack.
Tapping said that seeing the U.S.S. George Hammond plaque (you can see it here) on the bridge of her ship was bittersweet for her. The newest addition to Earth’s fleet on the show was named in honor of actor Don S. Davis’s character after Davis passed way in 2008.
“I have to say, when I got to work, and I saw the uniform and the General Hammond crest on it, I teared up. I think it’s a great honor to, not only Don, but to the character. So that was very cool.”
The exact episode or episodes in which Tapping will appear have not been confirmed. Season One ends with a two-parter, titled “Incursion.” It will air next spring.
New episodes of Stargate Universe air Fridays on Syfy in the U.S. The mid-season finale will air on December 4, with the back half of the first season expected to commence in late March or early April.
Great! Hope the USS Hammond will play a more important role in the future of SGU. Bringing SG-1 characters in make’s SGU look a bit more familiar. I love TPTB for that!
Fantastic news! Always a pleasure to see the fabulous Amanda Tapping back as the brilliant Samantha Carter! Can’t wait to see SGU’s finale episode! Bring it on!
Also huge kudos to TPTB for honouring Don S. Davis by naming Sam’s ship after his character George S. Hammond. That was wonderful to hear about in Stargate: Atlantis’ finale episode and a joy to finally see in SGU’s première episode! Hopefully that won’t be the last time we’ll be seeing the USS George Hammond under Colonel Carter’s command!
Cool, Looking forward to it.
Glad to see her back. Looking forward to it. I am just now starting to get into the whole SGU idea.
SGU News Updates just get better and better each time! Just like episodes of the series itself and it’s awesome storyline and general concept/structure! I knew Sam would make yet another appearance! I felt it in my bones! lol.
Anyhoo, This is awesome news yet again! :D
PS: And Hell Yea… Bring back the USS Hammond! Such a sweet tribute to a great man, actor and character!
sam will be back on sgu? YAY!! :D
Always glad to see her in any Stargate. Still my faverate character.
“I didn’t get to play with anyone. If they were ever to have me come back, I’d want to be with people. I’m kind of off on my ship, which I think is awesome.”
It sounds like it will be just a brief appearance then, nothing substantial to the story line. A bit disappointing.
They will put Amanda Tapping in the end of the season. It means that the series is going bad and has not suficient power to walk with its own legs, needing the help of the old SG-1 cast!
This will work as an injection of quality in the series. Indeed an act of mercy!
@Carlos-Curitiba like how they got Amanda to be the commander of Atlantis? or the other various guest appearances throughout the series?
