“We were contacted by Paul [Brown of Legends Memorabilia].” Gatecon co-founder Allan Gowen told GateWorld. “After Don passed his wife Ruby was getting so much support and fan e-mails of people sending their condolences. She was receiving thousands of emails.
“Ruby and Paul got together and decided that Ruby would like to come and thank the fans, or as many as she could in person.”
After a brief introduction by fellow actor and close friend Garwin Sanford (“Narim,” “Simon Wallace”) he invited Ms. Fleming-Davis to join him on the stage. Ruby received thunderous applause and a standing ovation that lasted almost five minutes.
The following was her message to the crowd.
Ruby Fleming-Davis visits the Don S. Davis memorial booth in the Gatecon dealer’s room.
I’m here on behalf of my husband Don. I want to thank all of you so much for your support and the emails in his passing. We had over a hundred thousand e-mails coming in, and I can’t answer all of them so I wanted to come here today and thank you all.
I also know Don would not believe that he had so many people that loved him because he was a humble man. He always used to say, “I’m just an old country boy that just fell into this and have all these people that loved me.” And he loved you back. I know that. He was so grateful for all your support over the years, and all your love, and I would like to share something with you.
We celebrated his life on his birthday when we scattered his ashes in Gibson’s on the water. After the ashes were scattered we threw a bottle of Royal Crown out, because that’s what he liked to drink, and also his favorite hat, along with flowers. As the ashes were on the top of the water, all of a sudden this seal comes out of nowhere, that went down and right through his ashes … and disappeared. So that was Don saying ‘I’m OK. It’s fine, honey.’
But he’s with me all the time. I can feel him around me. Again, I would love to thank you all for all your support [and] what you did for my husband over the years.
He was my friend, and my partner, and I miss him terribly, as I’m sure you do as well. So thank you very much.
Following a moving slideshow tribute by Legends Memorabilia owner Paul Brown, Ms. Fleming paid a private visit to Don’s memorial in the Gatecon dealer’s room.
