Dark Matter is going to be on our Must Watch list for 2015.
Today Syfy Channel announced the cast for the new science fiction drama, which comes from former Stargate producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. It tells the story of a small crew that awakens from stasis on board a derelict vessel with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. “Facing threats at every turn,” says Syfy, “they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets.”
The lead cast will include Melissa O’Neil (Les Miserables on Broadway), Marc Bendavid (Bitten), Anthony Lemke (White House Down), Alex Mallari Jr. (Robocop), and Jodelle Ferland (Twilight, Stargate Atlantis). Roger Cross (Continuum, The Strain) and Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl) will also appear.
Two of the cast have Stargate connections. Ferland (now age 20) was a young Adria in the SG-1 tenth season premiere “Flesh and Blood,” before heading over to Atlantis as the plucky young alien princess Harmony (“Harmony”). Cross played Lt. / Captain Conner in two early episodes of Stargate SG-1.
Mallari appears in David Hewlett’s upcoming sci-fi film Debug.
Dark Matter is based on the graphic novel of the same name, published by Dark Horse Comics. But Mallozzi and Mullie always intended the idea to be a television series, and will pass the events of the 4-issue graphic novel by the third hour of the 13-episode first season.
The show begins production in Toronto on January 7, and will premiere on Syfy in the summer. Meanwhile Mallozzi is blogging the daily goings-on inside the production office over at his blog.

Crew awaking from status on a space ship…can we just imagine this as a continuation of Stargate Universe?
Looking forward to a new sci-fi show and this sounds interesting.
My story would have been better though. A group of alien abductees awake on an alien ship in the midst of absolute chaos, the ship is under attack and sustaining massive damage all around them. Suddenly everything goes quiet and the aliens (crew of the ship) have mysteriously vanished, they find themselves millions of light years from Earth, no idea where they are and on a ship barely clinging together. Sweet lol.
like Starlost from the 1970’s !
