GateWorld connected with Diamond Select immediately after the company announced the action figure line to get those initial questions answered. The company not only jumped at the chance to answer what they could at this early stage, but also offered to answer more questions from Stargate fans on an on-going basis! Look below for details on how to submit a question of your own.
Here’s our initial Q&A with Diamond Select Toys, to kick things off!
Will the figures fall in the price point range of popular kids toys, or high-end collectibles?
The price point will be in the $15 retail range — again, like our Trek stuff, right in line with specialty market toys and other DST releases.
Will there be figures for new regular characters, such as Colonel Mitchell or General Landry?
Our license includes all characters that have appeared on the show, so sales will determine how deep we go into the character list.
Will there be figures for previous regulars, like Jonas Quinn and General Hammond?
Same as above.
Is there a chance of figures for prominent recurring guest characters (Dr. Fraiser, Anubis, Apophis, Jacob Carter, etc.)?
Same as above.
Will the figures be widely available at retail?
They should be available at many comic and specialty shops domestically.
Will they be sold outside North America?
We are going to be lining up international partners soon, but yes — we plan to offer these in many countries. Please let your retailers know you want the figures!
Who will be sculpting the new figures?
As of now a lot of the sculpting for the Stargate line will be done by Jean St. Jean Studios and Plan B Toys. (Art Asylum does do a lot of work for the Star Trek line.)
So the first wave of figures — Jack O’Neill, Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson, and Teal’c?
I really cannot give you a list of the Series 1 characters just yet. Hopefully by early November we will be able to release more information. It will be SG-1 based, though.
By the way — there seemed to be a bit of confusion on the site regarding Diamond. We, Diamond Select Toys, are a manufacturer and are responsible for the Star Trek, Buffy, and several Marvel lines, among others. Our sister company is Diamond Comics — the largest distributor of comics, anime, toys, etc.
