First to take the convention floor was longtime Stargate SG-1 stunt coordinator and actor Dan Shea (“Siler”). A bundle of energy, Dan delighted the fans with behind-the-scenes recollections of some of his more memorable stunt work — including a particularly hilarious moment during Season One of SG-1 involving Michael Shanks that can’t be repeated here.
David Palffy, who portrayed both Sokar and Anubis during SG-1‘s run, also took the stage and answered fan questions. Since his days on the show, he has recently moved behind the camera and is currently penning a handful of film scripts in the horror genre. Palffy, married to Smallville actress Erica Durance, also noted how the change in career dynamic between the couple has changed over the years.
“Before [she] got Smallville, we’d be out and about and a fan would recognize me and say ‘Oh, look! It’s Sokar! Or it’s Anubis!’ Now they come up to her and say ‘Erica! You’re great as Lois Lane!’ Then they turn to me and ask her ‘Who’s the bald guy?’“
GateWorld members also got together to celebrate the fifth annual GateWorld Dinner. This year’s meeting is the first time the event was held as a charity benefit. Fans raised $1,000 for B.C. Children’s Hospital. Celebrity guests in attendance this year included Christopher Heyerdahl (“Todd,” “Halling”) and David Nykl (“Radek Zelenka”) from Stargate Atlantis, visual effects master Bruce Woloshyn, fight coordinator James “BamBam” Bamford, and Babylon 5 actress-turned talent manager Julie Caitlyn Brown (“Na’Toth”).
