Mid-season 2-parter is ‘The Fourth Horseman’

A familiar face from SG-1’s past will return for “The Fourth Horseman,” a 2-part episode that will signal the mid-point of Stargate SG-1‘s ninth season, GateWorld has learned exclusively. Beware of spoilers in the report below!

The growing conflict with the Ori — evil ascended beings who threaten to destroy anyone who does not worship them as gods — finally crests on Earth itself. “The Ori make their first vie for Earth,” Stargate writer Martin Gero told GateWorld. A plague is unleashed on Earth that could have a long-term impact on the planet and the Stargate universe.

“One of the most interesting aspects of the show is that it’s happening right now, and using real people who live on the planet Earth and seeing how that plays out,” executive producer Robert C. Cooper told GateWorld. “We’re going to do a big storyline where an alien plague gets out on Earth that isn’t just contained.”

“[It has] genuine pandemic repercussions,” executive producer Brad Wright added.

But SG-1 finds help in the conflict from an old friend: the ascended being Orlin, once banished by the Ancients and who fell in love with Samantha Carter (Season Five’s “Ascension”). Orlin, however, is not invulnerable to the supernatural powers of the Ori, and his mind itself comes under attack.

The episode will also see the return of Gerak (Lou Gossett, Jr.), with scenes taking place on the new Free Jaffa homeworld, Dakara.

In the book of Revelation, the fourth horseman of the Apocalypse is Death, who rides upon a pale horse. Death and Hades are “given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth” (Revelation 6:8).

Actor Sean Patrick Flannery has not yet been confirmed to reprise his role, the show’s producers told GateWorld. In the unfortunate event that he cannot, the part will likely be rewritten as a different Ancient — though the inclusion of Orlin’s past relationship with Sam would complicate such a change.

“The Fourth Horseman” will air its first half in September, with part two expected to kick off Season Nine’s second half in January. Remember that as this episode is still in the earliest stages of production, the info listed here is subject to change. Stay tuned to GateWorld for more!
