Introducing GateWorld Play!

The future of GateWorld is here. GateWorld today has rolled out a brand new daily video channel dedicated to Stargate and Stargate fandom! GateWorld Play expands the Web site’s unmatched coverage of the Stargate universe into the cutting-edge world of online video.

GateWorld Play features favorite clips from Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, never-before-seen interview footage, trivia and other games, video takes on key entries from The Stargate Omnipedia, music videos and other creative contributions from fans, and other special features spread out over seven video categories:

THE PHENOMENON – GateWorld’s on-going documentary on the popularity of the Stargate franchise will feature fans, actors, and crew members alike, all sharing why they love Stargate and why they think it has become such a success. We have already spent three years gathering footage from fans around the world, plus actors such as Joe Flanigan, Don S. Davis, and Ronny Cox. Now dust off your Web cam, because we want you to contribute.

OMNIPEDIA UNPLUGGED – The Stargate Omnipedia has more than 2,200 encyclopedic entries from the past decade of Stargate. In this section we’ll pick some highlights and bust them out video style! The result is a documentary-like look at the people, places, and things of the Stargate universe.

CLASSIC STARGATE – Do you remember the early years of SG-1, when Apophis was still a threat and the most advanced piece of technology in Earth’s possession was Teal’c’s staff weapon? This section harkens back to the era that started it all, revisiting some of our favorite moments.

STARGATE VFX – We love characters and drama … but what about those awesome visual effects? In this section we’ll show off some of our favorite special effects moments, from space battles to effects that are seamlessly mixed with live action shots.

FAN VIDEOS – Here is your chance to shine! We are now accepting your submissions of your own creative work, including Stargate music videos, reenactments of favorite scenes, or anything else you can come up with. We will pick our favorites each week to showcase in front of tens of thousands of viewers. (Remember, clever ideas and good production values are the keys to getting published!)

FUN & GAMES – What is the name of the cat that Samantha Carter gave to the Tollan Narim? Think you know the answer? The Fun & Games section will feature regular trivia questions (of varying difficulty), “Spot That Director,” and more.

NEWS & FEATURES – Here you will find news round-ups, DVD previews, video blogging, and a variety of special features that do not fit into other categories.

The video channel will live right on the home page of the Internet’s most popular Stargate-dedicated Web site, with a larger version available in the new GateWorld Play section, at www.gateworld.net/video. There you can also browse to channels that are specific to each individual video category, and to individual pages for every video.

The small blue “Play” circle inside the player menu will also take you straight to the video’s dedicated page. There you can read details on the video, bookmark or link directly to it, and even embed that video on your Web site.

Click on the full-screen icon in the player’s control bar to watch the current video in full-screen mode.

And use the GateWorld Play RSS feed to make sure you don’t miss the latest videos!

Starting this Monday, GateWorld plans to update the video channel seven days per week for the foreseeable future! Our hope for 2008 is that you will discover something new at GateWorld every time you visit.
