Stargate: Continuum in stores today!

You can’t throw a stick across the GateWorld Web site without hitting a mention of Stargate: Continuum, the new DVD movie starring the cast of Stargate SG-1. It’s been a big couple of months leading up to today, but July 29 is finally here: Continuum is on store shelves throughout North America.

Written by series co-creator Brad Wright and directed by Martin Wood, the movie stars Ben Browder, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Claudia Black, Cliff Simon, and Beau Bridges, with a very special appearance by Richard Dean Anderson (“Jack O’Neill”).

Whereas March’s Stargate: The Ark of Truth was meant to tie up the story from the last two years of the television show, Continuum is much more of a stand-alone story — a wild adventure with time travel, tons of amazing special effects, and a host of bad guys back from the grave.

Stargate: Continuum is available on DVD and, for the first time in the franchise’s history, high-definition Blu-ray disc! Both releases include the film in anamorphic widescreen format, with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and the following bonus features:

• Audio commentary with writer/producer Brad Wright and director Martin Wood
• “The Making of Stargate: Continuum” featurette (22 minutes)
• “Stargate Goes To the Arctic” featurette (22 minutes)
• “The Layman’s Guide to Time Travel” featurette (9 minutes)
• Trailers

The movie comes with a suggested retail price of $26.98 (U.S.) for the DVD and $39.98 for the Blu-ray. Of course, many retails are offering the movie at a substantial discount, including Amazon.com.

Fans in the United Kingdom can catch the movie’s broadcast on Sky One on Tuesday, 12 August at 8 p.m. Continuum arrives on DVD there on 18 August (pre-order at Amazon.co.uk).

In Australia, the DVD will be in stores on Wednesday, 6 August. Visit EzyDVD to order.

The film is also available for $14.99 on iTunes, and is expected to appear on Amazon Unbox, Amazon.com’s digital download service, in the near future. iTunes will also have it available for rent beginning August 28.

What does the future hold for the SG-1 team? With big retail success for The Ark of Truth and, hopefully, Continuum, MGM reportedly wants more films in the future. Nothing has been green-lit just yet, so stick with GateWorld for the very latest.
