Stargate Atlantis co-star Jason Momoa continues to make waves on both the big screen and the small. The man who played Ronon Dex for four seasons of the series will return to science fiction when he stars in Apple’s new drama See.
See is described as a world-building epic set in the future. Momoa will play Baba Voss, who is a fearless warrior, leader, and guardian.
Additional plot details are being kept under wraps.
The show comes from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and Francis Lawrence, director of The Hunger Games. The two will executive produce the series for Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content.
The first season will have eight episodes.
The series is among Apple’s first foray into original scripted content on its own digital service, hoping one day to rival the likes of Hulu and Netflix. And the company is showing an early penchant for science fiction and fantasy content, with a yet untitled sci-fi drama from Battlestar Galactica‘s Ronald D. Moore as well as a reboot of the classic anthology series Amazing Stories, from Steven Spielberg and showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Once Upon A Time).
Apple also has its eye on one of television’s most ambitious projects: an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation. David S. Goyer (Da Vinci’s Demons) and Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) are currently writing a script for Skydance Television.
Meanwhile Momoa’s comic book feature Aquaman opens in theaters on December 21.
