Amanda Tapping Headlines Live Podcast Event This Weekend

The Vancouver film and television industry insider podcast YVR Screen Scene is hosting a special event this weekend, featuring four actors from the Stargate family.

Amanda Tapping, Lexa Doig, Rukiya Bernard, and Ryan Robbins will take part in YVR Screen Scene Live at Vancouver Film School. The podcast will record the show live in front of an audience Saturday, April 27 (7 p.m.), featuring conversations and audience Q&A. Fans who are local can secure a ticket to attend in person.

Produced and hosted by veteran entertainment journalist Sabrina Rani Furminger, YVR Screen Scene celebrates the Vancouver film and television industry through in-depth conversations with actors, writers, directors, and other talents from across the industry. The show premiered in 2019 and today boasts more than 300 episodes. Stargate fans will find plenty of familiar faces on the podcast, from Amanda Tapping, Jewel Staite, and Paul McGillion to Teryl Rothery, Gary Jones, Joseph Mallozzi, Simone Bailly, Jennifer Spence, Jacqueline Samuda, Sharon Taylor, and many others.

Tapping of course played Samantha Carter on a combined eleven seasons of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis before executive producing and starring in her own show, Sanctuary. Today she is an acclaimed Canadian director.

Doig co-starred on the Vancouver sci-fi series Andromeda before joining the cast of Stargate SG-1 as the recurring character Dr. Carolyn Lam in the show’s ninth season. You’ll also remember her from the Canadian sci-fi drama Continuum. Today you’ll find her on Virgin River, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, and the Disney+ remake of Goosebumps.

Bernard is known for her work on the Showtime thriller Yellowjackets, and as “Doc” on the Syfy Channel series Van Helsing. She also has a Stargate credit on her CV, playing an airman in the SGU episode “Space.”

Robbins played the Genii officer (and coup instigator) Ladon Radim on Stargate Atlantis before joining Tapping in the regular cast of Sanctuary, where he played Henry Foss. More recently he has appeared in the Sniper films, and as Frank Andrews on Riverdale.

Saturday’s live event will be held at the VFS Cafe in Vancouver. Tickets are on sale now, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Rehabilitation Program for the Children of Fallen Heroes, a charity run by the Ukrainian Canadian Advocacy Group.

“Since I launched the YVR Screen Scene Podcast in March 2019, it’s been my dream to record in front of a studio audience,” Rani Furminger said. “There’s a special magic that happens during these conversations. I’m excited to bring a live audience into that magic, and I couldn’t ask for a better venue, a better partner in Vancouver Film School, or a better group of guests — all of whom have worked extensively in the Vancouver sci-fi sphere, and all of whom have made repeat appearances on the YVR Screen Scene Podcast — for this first event.”
