MGM will release Stargate Atlantis on UMD

The adventures of Major John Sheppard and the Stargate Atlantis team are coming to your PSP! MGM will release Stargate Atlantis on Sony’s new UMD disc format on September 13, according to USA Today.

Just which episodes will be included is yet unknown, but it is likely that the release will only include the 88-minute pilot movie, “Rising.” The movie will be released on DVD on June 7, with the complete first season coming in November.

The 2 1/4-inch discs are playable on Sony’s PlayStation Portable handheld video game system, which made its U.S. debut in March. Though every major Hollywood studio except Warner Bros. has signed on to release key films and shows on UMD, the format remains largely untested.
