Hewlett sorry to lose Atlantis

With the cancellation of Stargate Atlantis from episodic status many of the cast are moving on. This includes satellite guest star Kate Hewlett, sister to David Hewlett. GateWorld recently caught up with the actress to get her opinions on a number of hot topics, including the show’s cancellation.

“I was very disappointed,” she told us regarding Atlantis‘s conclusion, “but I think that five seasons is a pretty great go of things and I think it’s a nice time to end.”

Kate appeared in four episodes of the series playing fictional sister to Rodney McKay, Jeannie Miller. Her most recent episode was this season’s “The Shrine,” and she tells us that this will be her final appearance on the series.

“I’m excited for David. I’m excited for what’s going to happen next. I’m disappointed because [guest-starring] was something that I really, really enjoyed doing and it was something I looked forward to every year.”

Atlantis is not over, however! The production team is busily preparing the first direct-to-DVD movie set in the Pegasus Galaxy. “I’d love to be involved,” Hewlett told us. “I certainly haven’t heard anything, but I’d love that. It’d be really fun to go back. Like I said, it was a great final experience so I’m happy, but if they do the movies and there’s anything for me I’d be all over it.”

Meanwhile, casting is in full swing for Stargate Universe, and several of Kate’s friends have been taking part in the process. “I have a bunch of friends who have auditioned for the show,” she said, “and they seem to be going very young.

“I think it’s the new, hip, Stargate Jr. I think that I don’t probably fit into that but I would love to. I was secretly hoping they’d be like, ‘We need to bring someone over. Who could it be?'”

Kate continues to stay busy outside of Stargate as well. She recently wrote a short film called “She Said Lenny,” in which she will also act. Expect the film to appear on the Bravo! Channel some time in the future.

Additionally, Hewlett has been keeping her singing talents honed. “I recorded an album of five of my songs,” Kate told us. “We actually sold at the convention in Germany, which was a total blast.

“I sold 23 copies of the CD so I’m excited. I just sold the songs themselves as files and I’m going to email them to people who bought them, but soon we’re going to have an actual packaged version of it and I’m going to see how that goes.”

Want to get your hands on the CD? Not to worry! Kate promises to keep GateWorld updated on the final product when it becomes available.

Stay tuned for much more with actress Kate Hewlett in GateWorld’s extensive, 35-minute audio interview later this week! Meanwhile, you can pay her blog a visit by following this link.
