“Come celebrate a decade of Gatecon with us at our 10th birthday party at the Sheraton Wall Centre, Vancouver, Canada. We look forward to welcoming back Gatecon family members old and new along with newbies wanting to experience their first fantastic Gatecon.”
The first line-up of guests have yet to be announced. Gatecon 2008 sported more than a dozen cast and crewmembers over the course of the event, including Richard Dean Anderson himself, with countless unannounced pop-ins from the likes of Paul McGillion and Tom McBeath.
“With the current world economic status it is making it harder and harder for people to attend conventions,” Gatecon co-founder Allan Gowen told GateWorld earlier this year (story). “Even though the economic crisis only became evident in 2008, we started to see its effects as far back as 2005. Attendee numbers started to drop at the conventions and we would constantly get emails and messages from people who couldn’t attend simply because they couldn’t afford it.”
Gowen assured us that Gatecon would be back for more in 2010. It looks like the team has kept its promise.
Gatecon is scheduled for July 8-11 of next year, with tickets going on sale some time this week. Visit them on the Web at Gatecon.com, and Stick with GateWorld for more on this convention as the news develops!
