Episode of the Week: Nicole de Boer in ‘Whispers’

JULY IS STAR TREK MONTH!

First Aired: September 5, 2008

Our rewatch of favorite moments in Stargate history continues! Each month we’ll pick a theme, and feature a key episode every week. Join us by watching the episode this week, and then head to GateWorld Forum (or posting below) to talk about it!

“To Boldly Go …”

  • Main cast members from four out of the five Star Trek TV series guest starred on Stargate. Only actors from the Original Series cast didn’t make an appearance.
  • This month we’re celebrating Trek on Stargate to mark the theatrical release of Star Trek Beyond, now in theaters (and pretty darn good, if you ask us)! Which were your favorite Trek actor guest spots?

“Whispers” Facts:

  • Actress Nicole de Boer (“Ezri Dax” on Deep Space Nine) guest stars as Dr. Alison Porter, a scientist assigned to the all-female team commanded by Major Ann Teldy (guest star Christina Cox). de Boer is one of several DS9 cast members to appear on the Stargate franchise, following Armin Shimerman (“The Nox”), Rene Auberjonois (“The Other Side”), and Colm Meaney (“Underground”).
  • To accomplish the episode’s moody, fog-covered environments, the crew staged the episode in-doors on a sound stage and fogged it manually.
  • Christina Cox‘s character, Anne Teldy, was named after a real-world fan of Stargate.
  • Major Teldy is actually the third character Cox has played on the franchise. Back in the second season of SG-1 she was under prosthetics as the alien T’akaya in “Spirits.” And in Season Five she played the former rogue N.I.D. operative Lieutenant Kershaw in “The Sentinel.”
  • Leela Savasta‘s character of Alicia Vega was originally scripted to have a significant supporting role in the fifth season premiere, and possibly an on-going role in the show. Instead, in “Whispers” she faces a quick and gruesome demise. (She was also gay, according to the writers, though her scene asking Dr. Keller out in the season premiere was cut for time.)
