Devlin and Glassner Team Up For New Fantasy Series The Outpost

Those with a bit of knowledge about the politics of Stargate‘s early years on television will see this as a somewhat unlikely duo: Stargate‘s Dean Devlin and Stargate SG-1 co-creator Jonathan Glassner are teaming up.

Production companies Electric Entertainment and Arrowstorm Entertainment announced today that they are joining forces to create The Outpost, a 10-part fantasy series with Devlin and Glassner executive producing. The series is set to begin in Utah later this year, according to Deadline.

The Outpost tells the story of a heroine named Talon who is “the lone survivor of a race called Blackbloods, as she tracks the killers of her family to a lawless fortress on the edge of the civilized world,” according to the report. “Along the way she discovers that she possesses a mysterious supernatural power that she must learn to control in order to save herself and defend the world against a fanatical religious dictatorship.”

The series is created by Arrowstorm’s Jason Faller and Kynan Griffin, who will also executive produce.

Casting on the series is currently underway, with no broadcast outlet announced yet.

Devlin co-wrote and produced the original 1994 Stargate feature film. Glassner created SG-1 in 1997 along with Brad Wright after MGM rebuffed Devlin and director Roland Emmerich’s plans to continue with additional films.

The film creators refused to have any involvement in the television series, and for years spoke about the show as a child that had been taken away from them.

Glassner left Stargate SG-1 after three seasons, and went on to work on such series as CSI: Miami and Falling Skies. (Check out GateWorld’s 2009 interview with him.)

Devlin has been working as executive producer of TNT’s The Librarians, and directed the upcoming Warner Bros. feature film Geostorm.
