With the Gateway Stargate convention postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stargate fans will have to wait for their next big trip to Chicago. But Creation Entertainment isn’t letting something like a global pandemic ruin all the fun. The company is hosting a series of online virtual events, letting fans meet the stars of their favorite shows from the comfort of their own homes.
Yep — it’s the Zoom Stargate convention!
This week Creation announced “The Gateway Virtual Fan Experience” for Stargate fans. It will run across four days at the end of this month, from June 25 to 28.
The participating cast members from Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis include those who were booked for the Chicago event (and who will be appearing there in person next year): Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Ben Browder, Joe Flanigan, Rachel Luttrell, Jewel Staite, Gary Jones, David Nykl, Alexis Cruz, Dan Payne, Alex Zahara, and Kirby Morrow.
There are two kinds of events in which to participate:
A “Q&A Fun” Panel is open to all on a “pay what you can” basis — though there are just 100 spots for each event. These panel sessions are hosted by the online venue StageIt. (Create a free account and book now to reserve your spot. StageIt members can also gift tickets to friends!)
As an added incentive to tip generously during the panel, the top supporter will also get a 5-minute, 1-on-1 video meeting with the actor — plus a $100 gift certificate toward autograph or photo op tickets at the 2021 Stargate convention in Chicago. Winners will be announced immediately following the live panel.
Second- and third-place tippers will get $75 and $50 gift certificates, respectively.
A Meet and Greet is a more intimate affair, with just 10 tickets for each actor up for auction. These 45-minute chats will take place with the actor on Zoom, with a minimum starting bid of $50 USD. Auctions are taking place now on Creation’s Web site.
Check out the full schedule to see when your favorite actors are up. The Atlantis regular cast members are set for events on Saturday, June 27, while the SG-1 series regulars will appear on Sunday.
