Gatecon Vancouver Convention Postponed To 2022

The organizers of the popular Gatecon event have announced a second postponement, with the Stargate convention now looking toward 2022 for its next in-person gathering.

Gatecon: Full Circle was originally scheduled for September of 2020, but — as with all other in-person conventions — delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New dates were announced for this coming August. Instead Gatecon hosted a special actor reunion on Zoom.

“With international travel still looking uncertain and the hotel’s ability to hold indoor events in August unknown at present, we have taken the decision to postpone Gatecon until 2022,” organizer Ian Rogers said.

The next event has been renamed Gatecon: The Celebration, marking the 25th anniversary of Stargate SG-1 — plus 22 years of Gatecon!

Those who already have tickets purchased will have their tickets automatically moved to 2022. Previously announced guests include Amanda Tapping, Ben Browder, David Blue, Paul McGillion, Teryl Rothery, and many more.

The fan-organized event is currently held every two years in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, where the Stargate television series filmed from 1997 to 2010. Typically more than 300 fans from around the world gather for the celebration and to visit with friends and actors from the shows. Gatecon is a non-profit organization that also raises money for charity.

Rogers added that organizers are in talks with the hotel where the convention is hosted to try and find available dates for Gatecon in early September of next year. Stay tuned to GateWorld for updates, and follow Gatecon Events on Twitter and Facebook.

Meanwhile other Stargate-specific events are attempting to return in the midst of the global coronavirus vaccine rollout. Creation Entertainment will go ahead with its Chicago-area event “Gateway” this June, and FCD Events has rescheduled Cal-Mah 3.0 (now “Cal-Mah: Reunited”) for September 10-12, 2021, in Telford, England. Amanda Tapping’s GABIT event “Inspirations” in the U.K. was also postponed a second time (originally being set for April), with a new date to be announced.
