The science fiction adventure series Dark Matter will one day return to our screens, if co-creator Joseph Mallozzi has his way. He reiterated in a post at his blog this week that he wants to revive the show, which only got to tell three years of its 5-year planned storyline.
Mallozzi has been rewatching and discussing the show every Monday with fans at the Orville Nation. The conversation over the final episode is set for this Monday, July 5. Other special guests have dropped in for these conversations, from visual effects supervisor Lawren Bancroft-Wilson to actors Anthony Lemke (“Three”), Marc Bendavid (“One”), and Mike Dopud (“Arax Nero”), directors Martin Wood and Ron Murphy, and more.
A revival of the series only needs a broadcast or streaming home ready to fund a new production.
“Just finished the Dark Matter season 3 finale – and I’m angry all over again,” Mallozzi wrote this week. “I’m going to start working on a pitch for the miniseries and will look to take it out in August. I’ll keep you posted.”
Prior to Dark Matter Mallozzi was a writer and executive producer on Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe.
Mallozzi has been talking about his desire to continue the Dark Matter story in some form since Syfy Channel cancelled the show in 2017. After 39 episodes the show ended on a massive cliffhanger, with an alien armada invading through a spatial anomaly.
Fans have asked the writer if he would be open to finishing up the story in another format, such as a novel. “The prospect of sitting down to write a novel is too daunting, and I’m the only one who can tell my story,” he said in March. “Still holding out hope for that miniseries though!”
Mallozzi has other irons in the fire, with a number of pitches developed for original science fiction and fantasy series. He is also serving as an executive producer and showrunner on a TV adaptation of the Powder Mage series of novels.

This is great news! I know the chances are slim, but at least a bit of hope again!
Awesome. I was enraged when they canceled Dark Matter! I'd love to see it back!
I wish him all the luck in the world
The show was goin well in the last season. Shame that it was cancelled. Hope that one day we will see the ending in some way. Mini-series would be great, though.

I never stopped being angry.
Bring back Dark Matter
Glad to see I'm not the only one still holding onto hope.. and that joe is still pushing!!!!
DM was (and still is) the only show that made all the tropes work, without it being chessy, and delivering on all the fascinating fronts of an Inter-galactic life in chaos. UGH I NEED IT!!!
Bring back One!
I was So mad the show was canceled! I enjoyed the humor mixed with dramatic moments in this show. I am happy to know SOMEONE (the Creator) still loves it enough to keep fighting to revive it.
I wonder if it will pick up where they left off or jump a few years ahead to cover the fact the actors have gotten older?
Why the hell end a show that way?
If nothing else give us an animated version of the DM Season4
