Could a Goa’uld Take a Wraith as Host?

Stargate Atlantis first premiered all the way back in 2004, and as Stargate expanded into a bona fide franchise fans started asking plenty of questions about the Pegasus Galaxy.

Questions like: Why didn’t the expedition take zats with them? Is John Sheppard just a Jack O’Neill clone? And why didn’t the Ancients leave any extra Z.P.M.s anywhere in the city?

But one of the most intriguing questions that Atlantis viewers asked pertained to the show’s sinister new villains: the Wraith.

The Wraith evolved over millions of years when an insect species fed on humans and incorporated human DNA with their own. Wraith feed on the life force of their victims, keeping an entire galaxy living in fear. They have powers of rapid healing, a shared hive mind, and a bit of telepathic trickery used against their victims (something the writers eventually dropped).

The question? Could a Goa’uld symbiote ever take a Wraith as a host? What if the villains from Stargate SG-1 joined forces with the creatures from Stargate Atlantis?

It’s an interesting idea, and one that the show never tackled in its 100 episodes. The Goa’uld were back in the Milky Way Galaxy, and the Wraith’s technology kept them pretty well isolated to Pegasus.

That leaves fans to speculate. So let’s press the question, for the sake of argument: Could a Goa’uld take control of a Wraith? Would the symbiote be strong enough to suppress the powerful Wraith mind? Would it need to feed like the Wraith does in order to sustain itself?

And what if the other Wraith in its hive found out what it was? Would a Goa’uld even be able to stay hidden inside a hive?

Stargate fan Matthew Revilla tackles all of this and more in the video above. Check it out!

So what do you think? Could a Goa’uld take a Wraith as a host, or is a Wraith’s mind too powerful to control? Let’s hear your theories in the comments below! For more Stargate analysis and speculation videos, be sure to subscribe to GateWorld on YouTube.

  • Curiously the Fandemonium SG-1 books (which are considered part of the canon) go over this in some way (the apocalypse novels in particular) , apparently the Goa'uld release a compound into their hosts (ostensibly Naquada as it's the only thing known to be released into to host body) that is toxic to the Wraith making it impossible for them to feed on a Goa'uld host without dying, now that likely means that if a Goa'uld takes a Wraith as it's host it will be releasing toxins into the Wraith's body, killing it and making the Goa'uld have to move to another host.

    • Goa'ulds from there mother planet, that they shared with Unas, didn't had the Naquadah in their system yet, only ones that came into contact with the sarcophagus technology, so as the Wraiths have human descendants they should be easly used as hosts by the "Snakes".
Only condition was that they need to originate from the home planet, do they would be a little dummer than the offworld ones but still powerfull combo innmy opinion.

  • I reckon if a goa'uld can take a being as powerful as Adria as a host then it could definitely take a wraith as one.

    • Their healing ability is purely hormonsl. They can control regeneration, control immune system and therefore banish cancer, but they can't fight telomere issue.

But ironic enough, the tech made by human-wraith hybrid could solve the problem

  • In my opinion it could take over a wraith easily. The bigger question would they be able to sustain it and personally I'd think the hive mind would either kill th we host or "kick it out"

    • Or the hive would see the advantage of the rich feeding grounds that the goauld would bring them too. In essence it would be tolerated till they are well onbtheir way and then killed for it would also pose a threat to wraith superiority. The symbiote would have to alter the wraith biology on feeding( we know what happened to michael and those who were converted and rhen reverted)

  • I always wonder why they did not realize that they was fighting clones. And the asgard did not look into how the Rath was using cloning technology?

  • But wouldn't the symboit try to cure the wraith of the actual disease that created it thereby turning it human like they did to Micheal in the show Atlantas

  • This is a no brainer!
Baal took Adria as a host ..... A human on the verge of ascension!
I think that covers all arguments

  • personally, i think they can definetly take Wraith as host, uf they can actually take over the host is another question, a mindless drone absolutely, an officer? maybe, a Queen NO absolutly not, in case of the Queen they would probably be trapped and decide to leave the Host (considering how durable Wraith are not killing them even if they try) unless the they made a deal with the Host and form a Tokra like relationship between Symbiote and Host.
If the Symbiote Cant leave the wraith queen and control, the wraith queen gain access to Goauld knowledge... and i think a Wraith with Goauld knowledge might be worse than a Goauld in a wraith body, even though weaker Goauld tech is more advanced than Wraith tech when it comes to energy efficiency, also shields and all that... bet the combination of both tech trees would give them a huge Jump and might make an intergalactic hypedrive possible... even if not a Goauld Hyperdrive needs about 200 years from Milkyway to Pegasus thats a long nap for a wraith.
