Stargate Atlantis actor Jason Momoa is back on stage in Studio 8H next week, set to host Saturday Night Live on November 18.
It’s his second time hosting, the first coming in December 2018 as part of the promotion for the first Aquaman movie. Now the sequel from director James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is finally ready to hit theaters on December 22.
Momoa played Ronon Dex on Stargate Atlantis for four years. From there he went on to appear on Game of Thrones before launching a successful film career, eventually being cast as Aquaman / Arthur Curry in the DC cinematic universe.
SNL seems a perfect fit for Momoa’s entertaining antics and sense of humor. Here’s just a sample of what came from his last hosting gig:
This year he’ll host alongside musical guest Tate McRae.
Momoa’s first Aquaman film was a breakout hit for Warner Bros. in 2018 with a global haul of more than $1.1 billion.
The announcement comes as Hollywood hopes for an end to the actor’s strike, which has stretched more than 100 days. Representatives from the Screen Actors Guild are currently reviewing the latest proposal from the studios. But SNL runs under a different contract that is not struck, allowing guild members to appear as hosts, guests, or cast members while the strike continues — though perhaps not to make explicit promotional references to struck work, such as feature films that are opening soon.
Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:35 pm (ET/PT) on NBC, and streams on Peacock in the United States.
