SG-1, Atlantis receive Saturn noms

Stargate SG-1 and its new sister show Stargate Atlantis are among those recognized by this year’s Saturn Award nominations, released today by The Academy of Science Fiction Fantasy & Horror Films. The two shows combined for a total of six nominations — four for SG-1 and two for Atlantis.

Both series were nominated for Best Syndicated / Cable Television Series, and will vie for the prize with Dead Like Me, The Dead Zone, The 4400, and Nip/Tuck.

Richard Dean Anderson (“Jack O’Neill”) will compete in the Best Actor in a Television Series category with Ben Browder (Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, who joins SG-1‘s regular cast next season), Matthew Fox (Lost), Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), Tom Welling (Smallville), and Noah Wyle (The Librarian: The Quest For the Spear).

Michael Shanks (“Daniel Jackson”) grabbed a Best Supporting Actor nomination, while SG-1‘s Amanda Tapping (“Samantha Carter”) and Atlantis‘s Torri Higginson (“Elizabeth Weir”) were both nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

Other familiar Stargate faces to be nominated this year include Claudia Black (“Vala”), for Best Actress (Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars), and Erica Durance (“Krista James”) for Best Supporting Actress (Smallville).

Lost led the television nominations with five nods, while Smallville and the TNT movie The Librarian: Quest For the Spear tied Stargate SG-1 with four. SCI FI’s mini-series Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars and 5ive Days To Midnight received nods in the Best Television Presentation category.

SG-1 won the Best Syndicated / Cable Television Series award last year (story). Anderson, Shanks, and Tapping were also nominated last year, but did not take home trophies.
