This Week: Weapons We Want
First Seen: “Stargate” the Movie
Good for marching, good for swinging around, clubbing, or strangling a foe — and great for blowing big, melty holes in things. The Jaffa staff weapon is a weapon of pure intimidation. Point it at your foe and flip it open with a fear-inducing crackle of energy. The staff weapon is powered by a small core of liquid naquadah, and is a Jaffa’s best friend. Watch out, though: If you haven’t been trained to use it, it may prove unwieldy.
First Seen: “Absolute Power”
Who needs to point a gun at somebody when you have their entire city targeted from space? Based on a Goa’uld design, the AG-3 satellite network is intended for planetary defense against alien attack. But if your allies step out of line, it’s a simple matter of redirecting the powerful, precise weapons toward the surface and giving them what-for. In a dream-induced reality, Daniel used the AG-3 satellites to show Russia who is boss.
First Seen: “Runner”
We want Ronon Dex’s trusty sidearm, which he apparently picked up from the Travelers during his years on the run from the Wraith. Easy to pack in a holster and quick-draw at a moment’s notice, the gun fires red bursts of energy — loud and fast. It has two settings: stun and kill. But more important: It looks damn cool.
First Seen: “Stargate” the Movie
Here’s a little power in the palm of your hand … literally! Who wouldn’t want to wear this fashionable accessory which also fires pulses of energy powerful enough to hurl a foe backwards against the wall? And if looking good and tossing your subjects around isn’t enough, the hand device is also great for holding your victim in a tight grip of energy ribbons, which slowly cook his brain from the inside. Use it on a lower setting to extract information, or just give your disloyal subjects a slow and painful death.
First Seen: “Within the Serpent’s Grasp”
This compact, hand-held weapon is an easy favorite. The zat gun’s coiled serpent shape reveals that this was probably devised by Apophis himself. Keep it retracted and holstered when not in use, and just squeeze the handle to fire a ribbon of energy (no trigger required!). One shot stuns them, two shots kill them, three shots disintegrates them! How handy is that? Perfect for dispatching your enemies quickly and without a lot of to-do, permanently disposing of incriminating evidence, or just putting the kids to bed.
Imagine never taking out the garbage again. The zat’ni’katel is not just a powerful Goa’uld weapon … it’s the greatest household convenience and time-saving device ever invented.
NEXT WEEK ON THE FIVE: The best episodes for one of our favorite Tok’ra!
Although never called it on the show I always thought the hand device was known as a “ribbon device”. Nevertheless that’s the one I’d want.
Now that we have the IOA I really think the
AG-3 Satellite array would be an awesome idea. At the very least something like it, like an Asgard Beam Cannon Array.
I’m a fan of the ZAT’NI’KATEL aka the Zat Gun.
ZAT’NI’KATEL could save the world what about that. it could disintegrate all the garbage and no more waste lands perfect solution to garbage problem :D
yeah somme, your right its a ribbon device
The Hand Device was also known as the Ribbon Device.

The Zat gun is my favorite, but I am suprised the P-90 didn’t make the list…it’s lightweight and the casings drop straight to the ground.
A hand device is definitively the weapon I want most (and a Tok’ra symbiote so I can use it), followed closely by a zat’ni’katel. They are some of the coolest weapon of all of sci-fi!
One thing I never figured out was, why didn’t they use the zat gun on SGA? I know it’s a different series, but they should have at least brought some over in season one, since they don’t need ammo. Plus, if the Wraith vaporized, we’ll have a “Why didn’t I think about that in the first place!” moment.
The Zat is number one for me, but I also really love Ronon’s gun.
Im suprised that the ag3 was on there since it was one episode, i would have prefered like one of the ships or the drones, maybe a human weapon like the P90, M9, G36, any of those great workhorse weapons of the show
I wanna know where the P90 is?? How come it didn’t make the list???
My top five would include the P90, the Zat, the hand/ribbon device, the staff weapon and the Carter special!
BTW, what do you mean by ping this page???
Human weapons didnt make the list i imagine since they (or most of them like the p90) are real weapons in use today. The P90 was designed in Belgium between 1986-1987 for the record.
Zat Gun is by far the best. Ronan’s gun should be number 2 in my opinion followed by Staff Weapon then the ribbon ‘hand’ device.
The Serrakin’s pistol was cool. But for me, Ronon’s gun is the best!!
Ronon’s gun FTW! Should be in the No.1 Spot IMO!
I always liked human weapons. Here are my favorites.
1. FNH P90 Submachine Gun
2. John Sheppard’s M1911A1 Pistol from the episode “Vegas”
3. USAS-12 Shotgun
4.I know it’s not an earth gun, but Ronon’s gun is awesome.
5. Heckler and Koch MP7, from season 9 or 10 of SG1.
Where the heck are the ancien drones? The ultimate guided weapon along with the chair…
ronon’s hand gun should be no 1 it’s so cool all the cast and fans want one lol
It is a toss between the zat and Ronan’s gun. Although I have always liked the P90. The best gun ever is the Barret AS 50 Sniper, though it never made it into the show. But if we arw talking about personal preferance, I like the feel of cold steel. Give me Swords/Daggers/Knives any day!
I Want to know y is the AG3 on there i kinda assumed this would be personal weapons
i wanna know y the x699 from the season 10 episode bounty was in there. it was like the first human hybrid hand held weapon and it was awesome. heres a link https://www.gateworld.net/omnipedia/technology/x/x-699.shtml
and what about Teal’c’s hand held glider gun. that was sickk
