Meet Stargate’s new writer-producers!

The crew of Stargate Universe has added two new faces to the writer’s room!  Remi Aubuchon and Linda McGibney have joined the show for its second season, which begins filming in Vancouver, B.C. next week.

The news was announced by SGU writer-producer Joseph Mallozzi (blog).

Aubuchon comes to Stargate from the recent launch of Syfy’s Caprica, having written and executive produced the pilot movie.  Prior to that his credits include 24, Summerland, The Lyon’s Den, and more.  He also wrote episodes for Chicago Hope.  He will be credited as SGU‘s Executive Consultant.

McGibney has previously worked as a writer and producer for Homicide: Life on the Street, Wildfire, Summerland, and more.  She also wrote three episodes of Chicago Hope.  As a Supervising Producer, she is the franchise’s first female full-time staff writer since the early years of Stargate SG-1 (though a number of women have contributed freelance scripts over the years).

As with the rest of the writing staff, the two will both write episodes and take up production duties.

The first episodes penned by the new additions should debut around mid-season.  Mallozzi previously wrote that “Paul [Mullie] and Carl [Binder] are brainstorming #6 and #7, while Rob [Cooper] and Remi look to tackle #8 and #9.  Looks like Linda and I (or, more appropriately given the slotting) will double-team on #10 and #11, leaving Brad [Wright] to tackle #12.”

Welcome to the newest members of the worldwide Stargate family!  SGU Season Two is expected to premiere this fall on Syfy Channel in the United States.  The second half of Season One resumes April 2.

  • So they are going with writers that do drama and soaps then. That should make all the difference in a sci fi show. All we can expect is more of the same tripe that has been dished up previously. Hopefully this will be the last supper for sgu.

  • Hey jaffa orange, if you are so down on the show why don't you just watch something else on Friday night. Yes SGU is not at it's best yet but give it a chance. Watching SG since day one and we miss SG-1 and Atlantis.

  • I'm not all worried about a Caprica writer joining the SGU team. most writers are capable of writing different things as he was also a writer for 24 which is a show which is very different from Caprica.

I welcom Remi and Linda and I think that they will make a fine addition to the stargate writing team.

  • "As with the rest of the writing staff, the two will both write episodes and take up production duties." What production duties? Shouldn't the writers concentrate on, eh, WRITING? Perhaps the lack of focus is responsible for the mostly weak results so far.

  • I liked the drama content on SGU, what I didn't like to see is the 80% drama 20% stargate balance. Couldn't be more sci-fi elements on it? definitely.

Please, even though you clearly have no idea how television is made, continue to lecture people on how to make it.

Television writers with experience and seniority also do production work. That's how television is made.

  • So a Caprica writer and a crime drama writer. Hopefully they can write other things but I'm guessing they're not going to be asked to. Does bring some possible new names for the show to mind.
