SGU Season Two mid-season finale title revealed

We seem to be getting ahead of ourselves a bit by talking about the mid-season two-parter for Stargate Universe‘s second season, seeing as how we viewers are still at the midpoint of Season One!  But such is life when the writing team begins work in December and Syfy holds off until the following October to begin airing the new season.

As we get ready for the April 2 return of Season One, this week writer-producer Joseph Mallozzi (blog) has revealed the title of his latest script — the first half of the mid-season two-parter for next year.  “Resurgence” is currently slotted as the tenth episode of SGU‘s second year.

The episode is likely to air in early December, leading into another mid-season break.  Part two will be penned by newcomer Linda McGibney.

Mallozzi’s first script for Stargate Universe is “Space,” which was also originally intended to be the mid-season finale for Season One.  When an episode titled “Fire” was expanded to become the two-parter “Darkness” and “Light,” the mid-season finale was bumped back a slot and became the mid-season premiere.

It airs April 2 on Syfy Channel in the U.S., and SPACE in Canada.

  • And what exactly is it with these mid-season break's?? I can't see any logic behind it. Especially when the show was starting to get better ratings...!

  • Jan Vetulani: There is no logic behind it, just a foolish desire of SyFy to "air original content all year" or something like that. I'll be laughing if it sinks SGU's ratings.

  • Even with the so-called desire to air original content all year, SyFy could air the season straight threw if they wanted. Fox does this with 24 and other shows-- and Fox airs many of their shows without any major breaks for the same reason SyFy is, so that they can have original content all year.

I believe SyFy is hurting SGU with this huge mid season break. SGU is a more arc driven show (like 24) that requires viewers to remember what is going on from previous episodes. However, SyFy is treating this show like it is more episodic-- that people can just watch an episode and know what is going on instantly. I hope SyFy doesn't kill the ratings with these silly programming decisions.
