Dark Comet Games takes over production of Stargate Resistance

Dark Comet Games has released a press release on the official Stargate Resistance forums, telling everyone who they are and explaining their role in the continued production of the online third person shooter Stargate Resistance.

The newly-formed company takes over the day-to-day support and marketing of the game from Firesky and temporary holder Fresh Start Studios (story). Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, parent company of FireSky and Cheyenne Mountain Games (the original developer of SGR), is currently in court over a bankruptcy filing and various leadership disputes, and has effectively ceased operations.

The press release reads:

As of March, 2010 Dark Comet Games, LLC entered into an agreement with Firesky, LLC for the maintenance, operation and development of Stargate Resistance™.  Dark Comet Games, LLC is a newly formed company comprised of the original developers of Stargate Resistance™, and has been able to continue development and expansion of this project without delay, and will release a new map with two game play styles, new character models, weapons, achievements and features in the coming weeks.

Dark Comet Games, LLC is also proceeding forward marketing Stargate Resistance™, with a new television and web ad campaign beginning April 30, 2010.

Stargate Resistance™ is an MGM Studios licensed product, under license to Firesky, LLC.  Firesky remains committed to the product, and is excited to partner with Dark Comet Games, LLC for the development and expansion of the game.

  • Okay so cool. SGR goes on etc. But if CME are bankrupt and have effectively ceased operations, what's the future hold for the Stargate Worlds MMO? Dead? Shelved? On Hold?... What? :S

  • @Orion2 I would pretty much say SGW the mmorpg is shelved. CME I doubt will let it die. I would hope Dark Comet Games when they have the staff would think about buying it off CME. Also technically CME is no longer bankrupt I believe that was dismissed this month by the bankruptcy court in Arizona.

  • In regards to SGW: Let us hope it is dead.
    1. Games that spend time in developer hell/limbo rarely are good. While in theory coming back to a project after a break may be a good idea, having lost that inital momentum its better to just start from scratch.

    2. Let us hope the game isnt sold to another company. Having played a few games which had multiple developers I can say having "too many cooks in the kitchen" applies to here as well.

I really dont get why there are these studios whose first goal is to tackle a massive franchise like stargate and expect to come out alive. Perhaps there is a reason the more established studios wont touch them.

That's not always the case. Morrowind is great. Of course, it could be argued that it was horribly butchered. The late 90's version was supposed to take place in ALL of Morrowind, include Houses Dres and Indoril, feature marching armies, etc.

Fallout 3, on the other hand...
