Happy Birthday To Us! It’s been 11 years today since GateWorld first went online — originally called “STARGUIDE” back in the day.
Over the past year we’ve enjoyed most of the first season and the first month’s worth of the second season of Stargate Universe, a praiseworthy (if sometimes controversial) addition to our favorite franchise. We also launched into our third year of podcasting after passing the 100-episode mark, and launched our first podcast spin-off — The TameZone!
And my … how the Internet has changed. Eleven years ago we were cutting-edge by just reporting news and posting episode photos. Today blog-style sites rule the world, and anyone with an idea and a WordPress account can launch a new site. But we believe we have a lot to offer in the quality and timeliness of what we do, and in the reputation we’ve earned over the past decade. Today we do everything from photos and video to news and spoilers, a monster screencap gallery, word-for-word episode transcripts, The Stargate Omnipedia (now over 2,400 entries), interviews with the cast and crew, and a whole lot more.
Starting this year we’ve also opened up our news submissions to you, so that you can get yourself published on a major sci-fi genre news site and help us cover your favorite shows and actors better. News story submissions — long or short — are welcome every day.
GateWorld Forum is marching toward the 40,000 member mark, with Stargate fans from all over the world joining what has become, for many, a true online family.
What are the plans for the future? It’s a wild time in Stargate fandom. We have some plans on the drawing board for 2011, but it’s too early to spill the beans on the BIG ONE just yet. But we will continue to hammer away at our weekly coverage of our favorite science fiction franchise, and bring you all the Gate news that’s fit to print.

I think I say it every year, but it bears repeating on this birthday: GateWorld is what it is because you help make it so. More than anything we’re a site made by fans, for fans. Whether you contribute to the site, participate in the forum, post comments on news items, or just have us bookmarked or watch our RSS feed, this site is here for you.
