Stargate Atlantis‘s David Hewlett has a role in this summer’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes feature film, starring James Franco, Frieda Pinto, Andy Serkis and John Lithgow. With the film under a shroud of non-disclosure agreements, his role has been something of a mystery — until now.
Watch David go all angry and get his ass kicked by CG ape Caeser (Serkis) in this extended preview clip from the film!
“The reason I was drawn to it and attracted to it — outside of the nerd factor — was the story,” Hewlett told GateWorld earlier this year (story). “At its core, it’s a story about family, and I love that. I’m so sick of going to the movies and being like, ‘That was so gorgeous, but the plot … meh.’ This has a real story and a real plot and real characters you can care about.”
Hewlett previously played Dr. Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Rupert Wyatt, and opens August 5 in the U.S. and August 11 in the U.K. Check out the movie’s official Web site.
(Thanks to Dan for the tip!)
Ok I’ll watch the movie just to see Mckay get whupped! ;)
The close-up shots of Cesear look really great – the longer distance ones, not so much.
Poor David, glad he got the part, but OUCH!
haha that was great! more Mckay!
Typical PR crap that every actor in that movie is supposed to say because it’s stated in their contract. “I play 5 minutes in the movie, I shot my scenes in one day but that movie is so good.”
Great job, David! And alongside John Lithgow and Andy Serkis, no less. Hope his role was a lot more than just one scene.
I wish David Hewlett could have gotten a better part for this (a main character perhaps).
mckay, gollum and the trinity killer
nice.
I figured his role was just a cameo, and behold, I was right all along.
Haha brilliant! I’ll watch this purely to see David again. Shame it’s a cameo though, he truly deserves his OWN film!
I’ve imagined a Forest Gump type film like (if people remember) the episode in Atlantis where Rodney was mentally damaged, it actually brought me to tears, he acted so well! I’d love to see a film like that, he’s such a talented actor.
haha mckay always runs away lol that never kept him from bein my fav on sga
Brilliant! I’m glad to see David in a new role, and I hope he’ll get another scene or two. If not, that’s a shame, but seeing this scene so well executed gives me hope for it.
Finally Dr. McKay gets to be in a major motion picture!! HE deserves it!!! I wonder if he will be as annoying in Planet of the Apes as he was in SGA… I remember reading an interview with McKay a long time ago and he was saying he would love to do a Planet of the Apes movie. So he finally got his chance to do it :) Gratz to Mckay!! Now with all the money Mckay gets from his major motion picture he should use to fund another season of SGU or at least a SGU movie!!!! haha again… Read more »
Congrats to David Hewlett for landing the part. I hope to see more of him in the future in larger roles. His talent deserves to be used.
I actually felt sorry for all 3 characters.
Dr Rodney McKay, Smeagol/Gollum, New Goblin and High Commander Dick Solomon all in the same movie?
Now I HAVE to go see it, lol.
Looks good, I go to movies to watch it for sure :)
@The Admiral
That is what I thought too. Especially after I saw the advertisment for the movie. I was like where is he I don’t see him. He must have a back seat part. Sure enough he is just the guy next door. He doesn’t have a star like Jason. But I watch anyway, because the movie looks interesting.
Nice to see David in a newer role – but the scene was so unbelievable. Who leaves their car keys in the ignition in a new Mustang just sitting out in front of the house? C’mon. I don’t know who I feel sorry for the most – David character for getting his ass handed to him or the poor Mustang for getting trashed! ;-)
@nobycane: he could have beengoing into the house to get something, and I think this scene was meant to make you sorry for all 3 characters, very powerful.
awww, poor David. he sure took some beating.
When is David Hewlett going be a star in ghostbusters 3 so we don’t have to put up with the horrible idea of them having ashtion kutcher as a ghostbuster?
