Film producers The Asylum have released the trailer for Age of the Hobbits, a straight-to-DVD movie starring Stargate‘s Christopher Judge (“Teal’c”). Check it out below!
The movie is a so-called “mockbuster” release, meant to take advantage of the big-budget theatrical release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14. Age of the Hobbits will be released on DVD
Here’s how the studio describes the story:
In an age long ago, the last village of clever, peace-loving Hobbits is attacked and enslaved by the Java Men, komodo-worshiping, dragon-riding cannibals. Now the young Hobbit Goben, along with his father and sister, must seek help from the “giants” (human hunters) to find the Javas’ lair and rescue the last surviving Hobbits, Goben’s mother among them. In their quest to destroy the Javas, the heroic partnership of humans and Hobbits will transform both species forever.
Bai Ling (LOST) and Sun Korng also co-star in the movie written by Eric Forsberg and directed by Joseph Lawson.
Is it a rip-off of the venerated fantasy story by J.R.R. Tolkien? The Hollywood Reporter indicates that though no lawsuits have been filed yet, New Line Cinema has reached out to the production studio about the evident similarities and threatened legal action if the name is not changed. The Asylum’s argument is that the term “Hobbit” has become common usage amongst anthropologists for describing Homo Floresiensis — a recently discovered, real-life tribe of people in Indonesia.
The movie poster even includes the statement “They’re Not Tolkien’s Hobbits … They’re Real.”

If they get slapped with a "cease and desist", the can always rename the movie "Age Of The Homo Floresiensis". :-)

That CG dragon at the end actually looked pretty good. In a movie like this, you expect the CG to look washed out and have awkward physics.
Secret Santa will be a great excuse to buy it.

Love the show miss all the star gate, want to see Judge do his thing once more the guy is a great actor.
Some of those Asylum movies are almost worth watching when they turn up on Syfy if you are really bored.. and drunk.. but who actually BUYS these things?
they're actors having a blast, even if said blast is filled with cheese and snot. Either that or they're bored.
Looks kind of cheesy, but Christopher Judge is in it. Just may be worth seeing.
One of my friends would have me watch it just to see if Chris's posterior (doesn't have to be nude, but it helps) makes a cameo, she is fascinated by it.
