Former Stargate SG-1 co-star Michael Shanks is on a roll. His supernatural-tinged medical drama Saving Hope has just been renewed for a third season.
The series airs on CTV in Canada, where it will begin the second half of Season Two in January. The show is averaging 1.3 million viewers north of the border, according to the broadcaster.
Like the current season, the third will be comprised of 18 episodes. Production will begin in Toronto this spring.
Saving Hope stars Shanks alongside Erica Durance (Smallville) and Daniel Gillies (The Vampire Diaries). Wendy Crewson, Huse Madhavji, Julia Taylor-Ross, Kristopher Turner, Michelle Nolden, and Benjamin Ayres also star.
Shanks (Stargate’s Daniel Jackson) plays Dr. Charlie Harris, who began the show as a spirit wandering the halls of Toronto’s Hope Zion Hospital while his body lay in a coma. Harris woke up in Season Two only to find that he could still see the hospital’s spirits — a fact he is intent on keeping a secret.
“The viewer response to the summer season left little doubt that we needed to sign up for more,” CTV Programming President Phil King said. “CTV is proud to give fans another exciting and dramatic season to look forward to, even before the winter premiere this January.”
“CTV has shown great confidence in this show, and we’re thrilled to see that yet again with this order for a third season,” said executive producer Ilana Frank. “We can’t wait to wrap our heads around the continuing development of these deep and interesting characters, and follow their stories through Hope Zee for another year.”
NBC aired most of the show’s first season last year as a summer series, but dropped it two episodes shy of the finale.
