Episode of the Week: ‘Lost City’

SG-1: Season Seven

First Aired: March 12 and 19, 2004

O’Neill goes to great lengths to keep the Ancients’ knowledge from falling into Goa’uld hands when the team discovers a second repository. Meanwhile the President replaces General Hammond with a civilian diplomat, and Anubis begins a systematic assault on Earth.

“Lost City” Facts:

  • Not knowing that Stargate SG-1 would be renewed for an astonishing eighth season, the producers originally conceived of “Lost City” as the basis for a feature film. When it became clear the series would continue, it became the show’s first 2-part season finale.
  • Jessica Steen (Earth 2) guest stars as Dr. Elizabeth Weir, but the character would be recast — complete with a change in hair color — for the spin-off series. (Torri Higginson played the same character on Stargate Atlantis.)
  • For seven years the President of the United States was mentioned but never named, suggesting the possibility that it might be the real-life President being alluding to. William Devane‘s role as incoming President Henry Hayes solidified once and for all that SG-1 does not take place in our own universe.
  • U.S. Air Force General John P. Jumper guest stars as himself in Part 2, serving as a military advisor to President Hayes.
  • “Lost City” was to be Don S. Davis‘s final pair of episodes as a series regular, in the role of General George Hammond. He stepped back from the series due to health issues, but would later return for a number of guest appearances.
