UPDATE! The film will be available for free until Sunday evening, February 18.
MGM is marking this week’s release of Stargate Origins with a bonus: the 1994 film Stargate is available to stream on YouTube for free — but only for a limited time.
The movie is available in standard definition (480p), with a run time of 1 hour and 55 minutes. This is the familiar theatrical cut of the movie, without the added footage of the director’s cut (which includes a scene of Ra’s abduction of his host from ancient Egypt at the opening).
Directed by Roland Emmerich, Stargate stars Kurt Russell as an Air Force Colonel and James Spader as an archaeologist, both recruited to travel through an ancient portal to a planet a million lightyears away. But you already knew all that.
Origins is a digital Web series set in 1939 — eleven years after the discovery of the Stargate in the movie’s opening sequence. The first episodes officially drop with a worldwide free preview Thursday, February 15 at StargateCommand.co.
