Stargate Vets Gero and Kindler Land New Series Deals

Former Stargate Atlantis writer Martin Gero has a new show in the works. CBS has given a pilot production commitment to The Secret to a Good Marriage, described as a C.I.A. spy drama about an elite pair of spies who fight to save the world in the wake of their fractured marriage.

Gero will write the pilot along with Brendan Gall, his long-time friend who also has Stargate on his résumé. Gall played Kaleb Miller, Rodney McKay’s brother-in-law, in two episodes of Atlantis.

The pair will write the pilot project for Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Gero’s own production company Quinn’s House, according to Deadline. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will also executive produce.

Gero currently serves as showrunner for Blindspot, which he created for NBC. (Gall also works on the show as a co-executive producer.) That show is entering its fourth season with an October 12 premiere. And it also had a nice McKay reference last spring!

He is also executive producing an NBC pilot with Alex Berger, according to Variety. Actress Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) is set to star as an L.A. attorney who moves home to Wisconsin.

Gero and Gall also sold a number of pilot projects last season, including a family legal drama at CBS, a political drama at NBC, and an odd-couple P.I. show to ABC.

Damian Kindler

Damian Kindler is also in the news this week, landing a new show at Netflix. He’ll serve as creator and showrunner for October Faction, based on the IDW comic of the same name, Deadline reports.

The story chronicles a pair of monster hunters who return home to upstate New York with their teenage children, attempting to hide their involvement with a secret organization — only to find that their new small-town setting is not as idyllic as it seems.

Kindler will also direct for the show, which has been ordered to series at Netflix.

Kindler was a writer and co-producer on Stargate SG-1 from Season Six to Season Eight. From there he went on to produce Sanctuary alongside Stargate alums Amanda Tapping and Martin Wood. He later wrote for the FOX fantasy drama Sleepy Hollow.

His recent work includes Syfy’s Krypton (with David Goyer), for which he is an executive producer. That show has been renewed (it is the cable channel’s most-watched scripted drama since Defiance), with Season Two expected to land in 2019.
