Where Can I Watch Stargate Online in 2023?

UDPATED: December 2023

JUMP TO:    Stargate SG-1AtlantisSGUMoviesOriginsInfinity

We get this question a lot: How can I watch Stargate episodes and movies online?

Whether you are brand new to the Stargate franchise or just looking to revisit a favorite episode, there are places you can legally watch Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, SGU, and the movies on the Internet – at least with the right subscription. (Episodes and full seasons are also available for sale, if you’d rather download it to own. A complete Blu-ray collection is also now available.)

Here’s a quick and handy guide for where the shows are currently streaming for U.S. viewers. Outside the U.S. check these and other digital streaming services and retail outlets. Rights differ from one country to the next, and they change from time to time.

(Note: GateWorld receives a commission from any purchases made through our Amazon affiliate links. Thank you for supporting the site!)

If you are watching through the entire franchise, check out our Key Episodes watch lists Recommended Viewing Order!

Only want SG-1’s episodes that are important to the ongoing storylines? Cut your viewing time in half with GateWorld’s Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

We will keep this guide updated as things change! If you know of a change in one of the show’s online availability, please drop us a tip.

WATCHING STARGATE SG-1

Where to Watch: Prime Video, Pluto TV, Freevee

Amazon: All 10 seasons are currently included with Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. Prime subscribers can watch the show’s entire run for no additional cost. (The first SG-1 follow-up movie, The Ark of Truth, is also currently free with Prime. Stargate Continuum is available to rent or buy.)

Pluto TV: All 10 seasons are streaming for free (with ads) on Pluto TV in the United States. The service has both an On Demand section and a 24/7 Stargate Channel. These are the widescreen episodes, and the first episode is the “Final Cut” (without nudity … though Pluto TV still labels it as “TV-MA”).

Freevee: Amazon’s free ad-supported service has Stargate running on a loop as a 24/7 live channel. These are widescreen episodes, streaming in standard definition.

Here’s the order we recommend you watch them in — especially if you are mixing Stargate Atlantis in there, too.)

Episodes and seasons are also available for purchase from: iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, and other retail sites.

Video Quality: In January 2023 Amazon switched from upscaled 16:9 widescreen episodes to the inferior standard definition, 4:3 syndication edit. The best way to watch the show right now is to buy it on Blu-ray or DVD (the DVD edition sporting a 5.1 surround sound mix starting with Season Two). If you are looking to stream instead, you’ll have to decide between watching a worse copy on Prime Video or widescreen episodes with ads on Pluto or Freevee.

WATCHING STARGATE ATLANTIS

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Pluto TV, Freevee

Amazon: All five seasons are currently included with Amazon Prime Video. Prime subscribers can stream all 100 episodes of the show on Prime Video for no additional cost.

Hulu: All five seasons of SGA are available to watch with your Hulu subscription.

Pluto TV: All five seasons are streaming for free (with ads) on Pluto TV in the United States. The service has both an On Demand section and a 24/7 Stargate Channel.

Freevee: Amazon’s free ad-supported service has Stargate running on a loop as a 24/7 live channel. These are widescreen episodes, streaming in standard definition.

Episodes and seasons are also available for purchase from: iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, and other retail sites.

Video Quality: Stargate Atlantis is available in both HD and standard definition. (At retail, HD of course runs a few bucks more.) Streaming services will stream the highest quality your Internet connection is able to handle, up to 1080p. The show looks great (Atlantis filmed in HD from Day 1) — but if you have both Amazon and Hulu, watch it on Amazon. Hulu’s copies of the episodes have hard act breaks (edited in for commercials), which isn’t the optimal way to enjoy the show.

WATCHING STARGATE UNIVERSE

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video, Pluto TV, Freevee

Amazon: Both seasons of SGU are currently available on Amazon Prime Video. Prime subscribers can stream all 40 episodes of the show on Prime Video for no additional cost.

Pluto TV: Both seasons of SGU are streaming for free (with ads) on Pluto TV in the United States.

Video Quality: Stargate Universe is available in both HD and standard definition. For the absolute best quality picture, pick up the show on Blu-ray.

WATCHING THE STARGATE MOVIES

Where to Watch: Prime Video, Pluto TV, YouTube, Hoopla

Amazon: Prime Video subscribers can watch the two SG-1 movie, The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum, on either Prime (without a subscription) or Freevee (with ads) — or pay to rent (or buy) them.

Pluto TV: The two SG-1 movies are currently streaming free (with ads) on Pluto TV in the United States: Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. The service has both an On Demand section and a 24/7 Stargate Channel.

YouTube: The original Stargate feature film is currently available with the MGM+ subscription on YouTube in the United States.

Hoopla: The Stargate SG-1 films are also available for free via the Hoopla digital service in the U.S., which requires a (free) account through a participating library. To access this service you have to have a library card, and your library must be a Hoopla subscriber.

The original film also does not appear to be available for sale at present. However the two SG-1 movies are available to rent or purchase from: iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, and other retail sites.

Video Quality: The Stargate movies are available in both HD and standard definition.

WATCHING STARGATE ORIGINS

Where to Watch: Prime Video, Hoopla

Stargate Origins was originally released in February and March, 2018, as a 10-part Web series. It streamed exclusively at MGM’s official Web site, Stargate Command. Since that site went offline at the end of 2019, Origins is no longer available anywhere in this format. (Find more details on the site’s closure here.) In June of 2018 the series was re-cut as the feature-length movie Stargate Origins: Catherine, which is available online.

Amazon: The feature cut Stargate Origins: Catherine is currently streaming free for Prime subscribers.

Hoopla: Stargate Origins: Catherine is also available for free via the Hoopla digital service in the U.S., which requires a (free) account through a participating library. To access this service you have to have a library card, and your library must be a Hoopla subscriber.

Origins is not currently available on any of the subscription services in the U.S.

You can also buy the feature cut from iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, and elsewhere.

Video Quality: Stargate Origins is available in both HD and standard definition.

STARGATE INFINITY

Where to Watch: Amazon

The 2002 animated series is not an official part of Stargate’s canon, and so it isn’t required watching by any means.

Amazon: The series is also available online through Amazon Prime by purchasing the “CONtv” add-on service ($4.99 per month after a 7-day free trial).

Infinity ran for a single season and is also available for purchase on DVD.

IS STARGATE ON NETFLIX?

Licensing rights frequently change. At present none of the Stargate franchise is streaming on Netflix in the United States. Bookmark this page for updates!

BUT DOESN’T AMAZON OWN STARGATE NOW?

Amazon’s acquisition of MGM (the studio that owns Stargate) closed in March of 2022. We anticipate that the Stargate franchise has found a more permanent home on Amazon’s streaming platforms and won’t be going anywhere.

The shows left Prime Video in the U.S. for a few days at the beginning of 2023, and when they were restored the higher quality, widescreen version of SG-1 was replaced with the lower resolution, 4:3 syndication cut for the show’s earlier seasons. We’re also hoping this is reversed, so that Prime subscribers can access the show in its full fidelity.

Keep watching GateWorld for the latest updates.

  • Now if only they'd put ORIGINS on Blu-ray and produce another season of it--but this time, make it good.

  • You can currently watch SG-1 on Comet TV. They continuously cycle through the three series, showing episodes twice a day. They have a TV app and can be watched online, and it's all free. Word of caution, though -- there is no on-demand, only live feed.

  • This was a major selling point for me with VRV. I love the Stargate series. SG-1 is one of my favorite shows of all time and sometimes I just need to binge some.

Aside from anime, VRV also has about a dozen channels that aren't related to anime, including a CuriosityStream for documentaries and Shudder for horror movies.

    • Not in Canada.. the last few seasons aren't available on Canadian Prime, in fact, they used to be included with Prime, but now you have to sub to Prime's MGM channel to get the first 7 seasons instead. MGM is pretty cheap though, at I think 4 or 5 bucks a month.. AFAIK, all the movies are available In Canada , as well as SG Atlantis, but again, they're all on Prime/MGM .
So it's only the last 3 seasons of SG-1, and SG Universe, that isn't available in Canada.
I did try to buy a membership in Gateworld half a year ago, but apparently it was closed to new ones, and in fact wasn't it supposed to be shut down beginning of this year?
Oh, and PS... The only place I found to view Origins in Canada was YouTube for $7.99 (US) which is *twice* the normal rental fee for a digital movie. More than I want to splurge, at the moment ;-(

      • Doccus: Do you mean Stargate Command (not GateWorld)? We've never had paid memberships here. Stargate Command stopped taking subscriptions around September-ish, just before announcing that the site was closing at the end of 2019.
