Following the success of this month’s Stargate SG-1 A.I. table reading, Stargate Atlantis is getting its turn in the spotlight.
The Companion announced today that its third event in the popular livestream series will be “Stargate A.I.: Atlantis.” Cast members will come together online to do a table reading of a new (and unofficial) script, but it’s not one that has been written by the crack team of real-live human writers – who penned the show for its 5-year run, from 2004 to 2009.
Instead this script is written by artificial intelligence, thanks to the technical labors of Google A.I. advocate Laurence Moroney.
The event will stream for Companion members this summer.
While the most recent Stargate A.I. event from The Companion featured an SG-1 cast reunion (Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, and Michael Shanks), the first A.I. table reading last fall mixed cast members from the two shows. That included Atlantis co-stars David Hewlett (“Rodney McKay”) and Jewel Staite (“Jennifer Keller”).
Take a peek at the previous events in the videos below.
The series of artificial intelligence models built for the project has been fed every script from the television franchise – and it continues to grow more sophisticated. The first Stargate A.I. event featured disjointed scenes and character interactions with dialogue often devolving into the absurd. But this spring’s second take revealed script pages that were much more coherent.
There’s no word yet on who will join the “Stargate A.I.: Atlantis” event, but we’ll let you know when it’s announced! Meanwhile check out TheCompanion.app for the first two Stargate A.I. videos, plus more sci-fi content.
