Film and television memorabilia collectors have another chance to acquire rare items from the original Stargate feature film, as well as a pair of items from its spin-off television series Stargate SG-1.
Djimon Hounsou’s animatronic Horus helmet, Jack O’Neil and Daniel Jackson’s green fatigues, and an original death glider model are part of Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, to be held November 9-12, 2023, in London. Online bidding is now open.
Directed by Roland Emmerich, Stargate was released in October 1994 an proved to be a sleeper hit with science fiction fans, introducing a brand new universe that was totally unlike Star Wars or Star Trek in its blending of interstellar adventure, ancient Egyptian mythology, and contemporary characters. The film earned nearly $200 million at the box office, on a budget of $55 million.
The auction also includes a pair of alien staff weapons (called “Ma’Tok” staffs in the film’s production documents), a small maquette of the giant winged statues that flanked Ra’s throne, and concept artist Simon Murton’s original sketchbook.
The two Horus helmets and the death glider are perhaps the most iconic Stargate items up for auction next month. Built in an era before the proliferation of computer-generated visual effects, the glider is made of fiberglass with a wingspan measuring nearly 7 feet (2.1 meters).
